    But you can also concoct something on your own taking care to avoid things like your mothers name, your birth date, and dictionary words.

    But remember, the tougher the password, the tougher it'll be to remember. If you lose it, you'll likely be locked out of your computer. Also, if the computer is a laptop and the laptop gets stolen, all bets are off.

    One word of advice though - please, for the love of God, make a backup before you do something like encrypting your boot volume.
    I never had any issues in the past and I did that on a bunch of boxes but if you interfere that heavily so close to the OS, something can always go wrong.
