    Hi there,

I'm running x64 7264 (sorry if my specs say otherwise) right now, and I'm noticing that explorer.exe will slow down to unusable after a couple of days. If i kill the process and restart it, everything ends up working just fine, but until I do that, the taskbar is unusable, and there are weird alt-TAB issues. Has anyone else run into something similar? Besides that little weird thing, I've been running this for at least a week now without a reboot, so that's pretty great!

Same problem here.. every time i log into 7 my cpu usage goes to 100% & my explorer is jammed. Only after i kill smc.exe and restart the explorer will the pc work normally. Can anyone tell me how to stop repeating these steps everytime ?

I had the same 100 percent cpu and after disabling HD audio drive like the others my cpu has dropped and stayed at 2% idle!!! Hooray!! I had trouble finding this because it wasn't listed under my audio section, but instead a ways down under total different category. Many thanks for who ever found this out!
I found this on another thread.

In fact there a 3 or more threads with cpu going through the roof.

So try this solution, it may just work.

Of course, now the second 320gb drive, the one that had Windows 7 on it, is completely fragged and I've lost about 200gb of files. The drive itself isn't fragged, the file system is, and all the files, all because of a piece of crap software put out by Nvidia, regardless of a "warning" on it, if it can hurt the computer you shouldn't be putting it out there, idiots. I love how software makers can completely absolve themselves of all responsibility merely by including a piece of text that says they absolve themselves of all responsibility. *******s should be flogged and then put to work sweeping streets, and never be allowed near a computer again. I think software vendors should have to have malpractice insurance just like doctors. Then you see a million fewer fools trying to foist themselves off as software developers. This is crap. Just crap. Screw you, Nvidia, and screw you, Microsoft. May your children get cancer.

That's a bit harsh. At least wish the cancer on the grandchildren so that there's a possibility that they'll be too senile to know/care.

But, enough of the sarcasm. Malpractice is a bit harsh, but they did tell you the **** doesn't work sometimes, so your best bet would have been to not use it, or to back up everything in case it didn't work.. just like they said it might not. Basically, if someone says "hey, this drug is great, but 1 out of 100 people go completely insane... take it at your own risk", but you take it anyway.... are you going to blame them? You shouldn't, they warned you, and you wanted the euphoria... just like the euphoria of installing some bleeding edge stuff. Just like overclocking. You're probably fine, but if you aren't, you should be prepared for the consequences.

Either way, I haven't notice an explorer slow-down in a long while now, so it may just have been a conflicting piece of software. That happens even in linux ya know.

smc.exe is a provsess for a firewall product. its info can be found here smc.exe - What is smc.exe? and if you are funning the sygate firewall re-installing would cure the problem. you might also want to use a different firewall
