Icon Cache seems to be not working in Windows 7

    But I've already uninstalled elaboratebytes virtualcd program, is it still there in the autoruns list that I've sent you? weird.

    Also, where did you read about my virtual cd program causing problems with computers? I want to read about it. Thanks.

    I was just browsing the Internet for other potential solutions to my problem and I stumbled upon this thread: Icons in menus and folders load/display slowly . It seems that MSE is the culprit here, now that's unexpected!

    Well, I googled the issue and it seems that there are a lot of hits pertaining to MSE as the culprit. I'll try disabling real-time protection and see if there's an improvement.

    CONFIRMED!

    Disabling real-time protection almost instantly loaded all the icons of my files in one directory! The difference is enormous!

    That's interesting and will upset a lot of people who swear by MSE. Don't leave yourself without AV protection though.

    Yeah! Don't have any choice but to leave running MSE for now until I find an AV program that wouldn't cripple my system! Or I would love to have a fix for MSE, are there any fixes?

    Just out of curiosity, can you go to Task Manager, Processes tab, find MsMpEng.exe and right click on it, change the priority level to something lower, see if that changes anything.

    I can't see MsMpEng.exe under Processes tab though I have msseces.exe. Is that supposed to be the same service?
