How to clear out usb history on Bench tech machine Help!

I plug a lot of Hard drives into this machine via usb adapter for data transfers and I tend to get frustrated and just reload the pc often. After so many times the pc slows way down. I go into the usbstor in the registry but it will not let me delete all the values there for a clean slate so to speak.

Windows 7 pro x64

I see that there is a way to keep this cleaned out and if I can find the correct way to do so I will make a batch file and force it to run weekly just to stay ahead of this.

I do this via Device Manager by expanding USB devices then right click and uninstall all the greyed out ones (ones not currently installed). I don't know any way to automate this so like you, I do this once a week or so and remove anywhere for 10 to 30 devices each time.

Worked perfectly on my Windows XP Pro X86 system at work. I'll try it on Win 7 Pro X84 tomorrow.

Worked well on my Windows 7 system too. I'll try 8.1 in a bit after I run Acronis and create a restore point.

It should work on Win 8 as well (but let us know). I find the drivecleanup tool quite handy and easy to use. A "must have" in a geek's tool kit

Yes indeed. I do the drive cleanup periodically and the drive cleanup has resolved USB related problems for many.

After running it, in Outlook 2010 a Hotmail IMAP account does a send/receive much faster.
That account has always been slowest for me, but this seems to have helped.

I had one key that couldn't be removed on the first run.
Rebooted and ran it again - key removed.

Code:

Removed 5 USB devices
Removed 14 USB hubs
Removed 3 Disk devices
Removed 1 CDROM devices
Removed 0 Floppy devices
Removed 50 Storage volumes
Removed 2 WPD devices
Removed 87 Keys from registry
Regkey to delete HKLM\System\MountedDevices\\??\Volume{140dac9e-abc4-11de-9c80-806e6f6e6963}

1 Keys not removed from registry
