Big thumbnail hiding everything

Hi,

I had such an old win7, 15 years old, becoming more and more unstable that I've proceed to install a new seven.

I've come across some irritating thing with this january 2022 version but this one is a pain in.......

When I move a file/folder to copy/move it to another place, windows displays a big thumbnail/icon under the cursor, hiding the name of the folder where I want to put the moved object (I'm always in list mode).

Does someone know how to turn this off ?

Try playing with the view settings or customizing the folder to a more relevant type.

The issue isn't a view mode for a particular folder as this happens everywhere when copying/moving files as dépicted on the picture below : whatever display mode used, list (my usual mode), icons, thumbnail, windows shows that big fu...ng icon hiding folders and I just can't find how to turn that shitty behavior off.
My old W7 didn't do that : when in list mode, copying/moving files/folders resulted in an object the size and display of the other items.

As for explorer, my old, now replaced by this january 2022 version didn't had the same explorer : mine used to have a menu line, this one hasn't. What is wrong here ?

It looks like you're using a "shity" GUI Windows Explorer replacement. There's your issue...

I know because the background color is not default, some of the GUI aesthetics look different, and that pop out folder icon is NOT a core Windows 7 feature.

I'm not sure shitty aplies here even if at some times... Yes it's not standard windows backgrouds, backgrounds only, it is skinned materials by stardock windowblinds.

It replaces only graphical windows parts, it doesn't add or remove behaviors/options : the proof being that when unloading windowblinds I'm still left with the same issue.

I use windowblinds due to win7 lacking dark mode and I have a glaucoma in 5th gear since last year so black text on white background is blinding me.

To be thorough, I use a generation 2 build of windows 7 with defender taken off ans all updates stremalined.
I've never had generations 2 related issue, could it be it ?

I honestly don't recall that functionality in Windows 7. So that to me indicates there's just some DLL or what ever making your UI do that.

If it's there it might show up in Autoruns or Process Explorer.

In Process Explorer go to the top, File | save as.

In Autoruns go to the top and save the ARN file. zip both and upload here and I'll have a look.

Be very careful with Autoruns and try not monkeying with stuff you know nothing about. It can be like a rabid wolverine...


And yes, I'm familiar with Windowsblinds and the other DLLs they offer... I figured that's what you were running.

A thought: Patching the Windows systems32 file could have done it, I don't know for sure. I think it's in the resources folder, is it not?

I'd rather think of a windows 7 version behavior as I've used windowblinds for ages (since xp in fact).
My previous windows 7 installation didn't exhibit such behavior when I was yet using windowblinds.

To be thorough I'm using an ISO from a P2P group (Gen2) but after verifying it hadn't been modified or tweaked. I've also looked at things thru autoruns without any dubious entries. So... I'm puzzled.
