It's best not to let programs like that mess on with your registry. Deleting those few entries wont make any difference at all to your machine, neither will hundreds of such entries make any difference.

Eventually the software will delete something vital and your machine will crash.

My advice would be to uninstall that software ( The Advanced System Care), and leave your registry alone.

Windows 7 keeps itself running without any such spurious assistance.

Just keep regular backups.

Hi mike,
i thought it was a good program a

Many people use these programs in the belief that they will speed up their machines, or keep them "clean". Unfortunately, these programs cause a lot of failures. Allowing such programs to delete stuff from your registry is a very bad idea.

You only have to set the backup software up once, and it will do what you want automatically after that. If you need help to set it up, then just post again, and either I or somebody else will help you with it.

For a clean up, Windows has its own utilities. One that many people ignore is "Disk Cleanup", you can get to this in a number of ways, but the easiest is just to right click on the drive and then open "Properties";

"Disk Cleanup" is next to the pie chart of the drive contents.

If you click on it it will scan your drive and then give you options to clean up the drive,

choose the options you want and click OK.

No, I don't know the Arcsoft product.

This is a very good backup freeware;

Free Download EASEUS Todo Backup Freeware and Trial version. Complete Backup and Restore Software for Windows & Linux.

I don't like the built in backup options on win 7.

Hi,

The backup program included is better than nothing - but is very inflexible.

You will be better using a free 3rd party app.

Mike seems to like Todo - I am not keen on it.

There are a couple of others that are well liked on this forum :

Macrium free is very small, fast and effficient. The recovery disc you run off from within thr program is also tiny, fast and very widely compatible:

Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download

Paragon free is the only 3rd party app. to align properly to nt6 rules during partition creation and image restore, it is the lowest in resource usage, and also the only app. to check the drive - warning of any issues whilst imaging.

That is because backup image corruption is almost always due to drive problems. You don't want to find out too late there is problem with the image. (Luckily it doesn't happen often).

Be sure to make a recovery disc!

I make two, just to be absolutely certain! :)

Todo is very large.

If I get tme, might have a look and see if it can run easily in winpe3.

I have Macrium, Paragon and Acronis running and working beautifully in pe3, so should be doable.

It might need drivers coming in at boot - Acronis does - the other two are pretty much portable and easy.

Can you extract individual files from the image with Todo Linux disc, or can you only do that if you mount?

Only if you mount, as far as I am aware. But I haven't tried it. I don't use Linux itself much and don't really know very much about the newer systems.

Well, you will doubtless get differing opinions on this, but I turn it off. It has caused me more problems than it was worth.

As long as you have regular image backups there is no real point to it, it just wastes disc space.

I make an image backup at least once a day, sometimes more often, and I run an incremental file backup of my data every day as well, or more often if I have been working on a number of files.

For anybody else reading this, especially beginners! Only turn things like this off if you know exactly what you are doing and why!!!

If you make mistakes with stuff like this and your system crashes there is no easy way to recover it.

Sorry for my lazy typing lol.:doh:
Hi Mike,
When you say keep regular image backups, do you mean full fbackups? i have a 1Tb external HDD for backups and my main HDD is 1TB with just over 500GB of data on it. i've done a full backup and set a weekly incremental schedule. i only use my pc for gaming and media so things do'nt change too often. hense weekly schedule. i have win7 on disc. i also keep 2 folders on my backup drive . 1 for a copy of all main programs and 1 for drivers.i think this is ample is'nt it? i have no problem with doing clean installs.

i do'nt need 2 create a system image aswell do i?

You only need to image the system drive. ( Including Windows reserved partition), file backup for everything else, although you can make an image of files as well if you want.

I have trouble reading your posts, can you please not use abbreviations and "phonespeak". Makes it very difficult to understand what you are writing.

You need to image your system disc, including the windows reserved partition;

For everything else use file backup:

You can then also simply use "Incremental file backup" ( click on the check box on the lower left of the program screen to find the backup you want to increment), to add any changes to your file backup;

Run any new backups you do BEFORE!!! you delete the old ones.

If anything should happen to your machine in the meantime, you still have a backup. ALWAYS!!! run new backups BEFORE!!! deleting old ones.

You can schedule your backups to run automatically if that suits you better;
