I have installed Bit Torrent on one of my desktops and I don't have a clue how to download files.
Any help with this program would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

presumably you are downloading from a legal download , so click the download link on a download and you should get a prompt to open with bittorrent , follow the prompts.
Have you checked the included help files, or the support/forum pages from where you obtained the client?
This is what µTorrent looks like when first opened.
In Help, it says the following:
When you open µTorrent for the first time, you are presented with the µTorrent Setup Guide. As stated in the wizard, following the simple directions will help you select the optimal settings for your Internet connection.
This did not happen.
So I went into Preferences and made a few changes.
In the General Category I set µTorrent not to open when Windows booted up.
Under Connection I set connection port from random to port 80.
Under Directorys I made a folder and set µTorrent to download to that folder.
That was all the changes I made
After making the port change, I did test the connection and it seems to be working.
I still do not see anyway to download with µTorrent. My understanding is I need some kind of file (torrent file) for what I want to download but I am not sure where to get that file or how to add it (if I did have it).
Hope that explains my delima. Thanks
here is a link to legal torrent sites, by finding a download there should be a download link, when you click it utorrent will open , if you use firefox the downloads page will come up asking you whether to save or open with ,set it to open with utorrent and save the setting. this way whenever you click a torrent it will open utorrent automatically and clicking ok prompts a couple of times to get it started .
its simple really once you do it a couple of times

Have a look here: Get Started - BitTorrent - Delivering the World's Content
You need to go to a Torrent site to select your legal download first.
boohbah I went to that site (in IE) and tried several links and utorrent never opened.
Seavixen32 I followed your link also with the same results when I searched (say movies) and none would open u torrent.
try it looking in your recent downloads ,look for the tracker you downloaded and double click on it.
personally i would use firefox. its less hassle.
when you use IE it asks if you want to save ,open when you click on a download, it downloads a tracker and that is what you need for bittorrent/utorrent to open.select open ,then you will see utorrent open.
i have never used IE much and just tried to download a torrent using ie for the first time, it gave me the prompts to save open etc and i chose open and bitorrent opened
You may want to check your firewall settings.
When installing, you get a prompt asking to "Add an exception for uTorrent in Windows Firewall".
The box is usually checked, so you should be fine as long you didn't uncheck it.......while using Windows Firewall.
My guess though is that something is blocking your access to those files.
