Acronis does not see my C: drive

Hi Night Hawk...thanks for the info on the Macruim Reflect. There are a lot of imaging software around, and Norton Ghost has been around for many years. I tried the NG a few years back and it totally hosed my computer. By the time is finish with me I had no option but to do a complete wipe and reinstall of everything. I decided that what it might have been at one point if was no more, and never touched it or anything to do with anything Norton again.

There are too many good products to waste time and money on those that do more harm than good. Paragon is one I have not tried in many years. Once I got to using Acronis there was just no reason to try others. Acronis is so easy to use and does a great job, without all the fuss and hassles that there is no reason for me to change. This episode with Acronis is the first ever that I have had with the software, and although I am not sure why, at least I now, from the assistance with the Acronis support, I know what I need to do to get it to install properly and see the C: drive. And it does appear that something was not getting installed properly in the first couple of tries, even for the support tech. It happens now and then. Computers seem to just do their own thing at times and there is no real explanation.

But, as of now I have it working, it is backing up as it should, and that is the main thing. Having a lifeboat at hand just in case.

I never tried Ghost here but the way Norton or anything by Symantec was in years past always saw a bad rep. While running the RCs I had Macrium on but due to a drive letter change or something simply the image created from the then present Vista install still on from the old XP/Vista dual boot could not be restored with the "invalid" message.

That was it for Macrium! The built in option in 7 was the ticket until going for the 2010 version which has been as reliable as the 7 tool but compresses the image size further and features the virtual mount as drive option. The option to burn a live recovery cd is also one of the tools seen with the program.

I was told on the Acronis forum that the Acronis 10.0 would not work on the Win7 x64, so I did not try it, only the TI 11.0. But, for the new machine I may need to upgrade to the 2012. I can continue to use the others on the other machines where they are working well. It isn't all that much to upgrade, and it is better than nothing, and I know that it works well. Better than spending money on something that won't work or work as well, and wind up having to buy the TI 12 anyway.

But, I am glad that it is working well, and the Acronis support has been really super. And good tech support is important to me as well as the product.

From what I was finding the 11 version was having a few problems according to the others looking for help. This does happen at times with different versions for different programs as well. The December release of VM Player I had on would not allow the next version's Customer Preview to connect online. The next release in February 2012 however was an apparent fix to the previous release's bug there but won't take on the RP?! :(

The Home 2010 was a champ from Day One for me! I haven't run into any hassles where a restart didn't solve something like a service not running which proved to minor from having disabled some startup services. The option to mount an image as a second C drive for viewing and adding files was a plus over the 7 backup option.

As for the 10 version that was likely a 32bit XP special and never intended for any 64bit Windows to start with. The next version 11 was geared to be cross platform for Vista x64 at the time as well as the 64bit XP Pro.
