I am using windows 7 enterprise 64 bit downloaded from microsoft on a 90 day trial to ensure all of my software works before windows 7 is launched .... all of my software I will be using (bar norton 360 v3 which im waiting for the windows 7 release) ..... the only thing I cant get to work properly is power dvd 7.3 .. it works for normal dvd;s but wont play blueray.

I have a lg combi hd and blueray player and have loaded all the required stuff and updated the firmware but when I load a blueray or HD disc power dvd 7.3 crashes ..... ive emailed power dvd makers and they said it should work as long as its updated ... IT WONT !!

Any idea's please i have a dual boot with windows vista but its daft as windows 7 uses windows vista stuff but has been more refined ......

I have a radeon hd 4650 which meets the blueray requirements and windows vista plays blueray and hd discs perfect ... any idea's please .... I really only want one operating system ..... am I doing something wrong ???

thanks in advance

Welcome Mancuk!
As I understand from your message PowerDVD 7.3 crashes after loading a blu ray disc in your blu ray player.
First some assumptions:
  • All drivers, Catalyst HD version updated?
  • Power DVD 7.3 came with the blu ray player?
  • After installing Power Dvd did you load the activation key?
  • When you installed Power DVD did you use the preinstallation option to run as administrator
  • Before installing did you run compatability mode for XP SP3?
Report back the results so we can find a resolution of your issue.

regards,
Adrian

  • All drivers, Catalyst HD version updated? YES DONE
  • Power DVD 7.3 came with the blu ray player? YES
  • After installing Power Dvd did you load the activation key? Thought it was inbuilt because it comes with the drivers disc for the player .. where do I find the activation key ??
  • When you installed Power DVD did you use the preinstallation option to run as administrator no ill uninstall and try again
  • Before installing did you run compatability mode for XP SP3? once again no ill try again
where is the activation key .. when I updated power dvd it did ask for the key however i assumed that it was already built in as its not the retail version and ive never used it on vista (it has the lg drivers, burner software and power dvd on it)

can you advise pls ...

thank you in advance

Mancuk, the activation is on the protective envelope that the powerdvd disk came in.
See attached.

As far as I know Power DVD 7.3 is NOT compatible with Win7.

The first compatible version is 9.

I think the guys from Power DVD meant you will need to upgrade to version 9.

Hello Squonksc, that assumption is incorrect as the version I have pictured in the previous post is the version I installed on my machine and works with no issues for blu ray and dvd.

I stand corrected.

I read about 50 threads on google from people with similar problem as the OP,
and no solutions, that's why I assumed it.

Thanks for the info

PowerDVD 7 doesn't work for me either. When I try to install the latest patch it tells me a file cannot be created and errors out removing the entire thing.

I can install this "CyberLinkPowerDVDUltra_EVRlogo" (digital download from cyberlink.com) but when I install this latest patch "CyberLink.5105_TaRe42_DVD090217-02" it removes everything. And to be honest it really needs the patches to be usable.

Edit- Probably not a good idea to be sharing your serial key like that;)

I was in another forum discussing how to get PowerDVD (or maybe it was here) so I could get native BD playback, and I was advised that PowerDVD 7 *does* work in W7 and *does* have BD playback support.

Getting mixed signals.

For some it's working, for the majority it's not.

Huge amount of posts on the net saying it doesn't work.

I guess it's conflicting with other software or maybe even hardware.

No worries there, the disc has a serial number so the activation key has little use unless you have the physical disc.

Sounds good, just didn't want you to try installing it and seeing it was already activated 1,000 times;)
But I wonder, is everyone that has this working on the RTM build of Win 7? All the posts I have found on the net where peeps are saying its working are from the beta/RC builds. I wonder if that has something to do with it..

Hi

I have PowerDVD 7 working on my system but if you upgrade to Windows 7 rather than carry out a clean install, you need to uninstall PowerDVD afterwards, reboot and then re-install.

I've been using PowerDVD 7 to watch BD disks for 2-3 weeks now with no problems:), apart from the registration window won't go away.:(

I also found that I had to do the same with Virtual Clone Drive.

lol - Looks like it might be a 64 bit bug only. Is anyone having problems with a 32 bit setup?

Hi Adrian

Yes, I use Slysoft AnyDVD to rip, then I create an ISO with Imageburn and mount with Slysoft Virtual Clone Drive.

Uk, have ANydvd just rip an image. It will save you the extra step. After settings, just copy the BD to an image.

Hi Adrian

I've tried that but don't get a 100% success rate. Although no errors are reported, the movie sometimes hangs. If, on the other hand, I split into three tasks, I don't have that issue.

Have you noticed this problem?
