Delete Macrium Reflect registry entry shown in msconfig start up

I think this comes under the heading of what Paul Black calls dust bunnies.

There is a stubborn startup item left in a sample install I made of Macrium Reflect. I'll never learn that I should avoid it. Backup programs like Macrium Reflect and AOMEI (also deleted) leave things in startup and also services. My tool for program deletes is Revo Uninstaller. It is thorough but the

Startup entry for Reflect UI as it is named shows an HK.... key I cannot read. No doubt the Macrium

enthusiasts on Sevenforums know how to deal with this.

I've also tried using the technique of deleting the entry in Task manager as described in a help file.
    That did not work.

I ran Disk Cleanup Extended from Sevenforums and that did not catch it either.

    Hello and thanks for answering.

I ran regedit and no, I did not see a Macrium entry. What am I to make of that?

Revo Uninstaller's last function during uninstall is the Scan, Safe, Moderate, Advanced -- which one of those three did you choose as the last step? For AOMEI? Then for Macrium Reflect? Since they are gone, what will you be using for backup/restore?

I always use the maximum deep scan in Revo.

We've had the debate about old Noron Ghost versus these new tools on other days. I have tried Acronis True Image lately since it runs from a disc. I had some success with it but I think it was on this HD with
the problem that it showed an error while running. Something about a driver not found. I was irritated-- I just quit that backup attempt without writing down the error.

Even with Acronis, a clone job is not obvious. It's on a sub menu under utilities.

Are you trying to delete all of Macrium Reflect's startup crap like registry entries? If so, run Autoruns, go to File and save the ARN file. Zip the ARN file and upload here and I'll have a look and possibly make a batch file that will remove the crap. I may have to have you run the registry as a system level user though depending on how stubborn the registry key/s are. If you absolutely know what you're doing, a simple right click on the entry in Autoruns and a delete may do it. But it can return depending on what it is and I'll need to investigate if so. Simply be in the Everything tab and in the search box enter Macrium Reflect.

As to cloning, I use the free Clonezilla cloning software. It's not a very intuitive piece of software and you may have to read about how to use it on the Internet and/or watch some YouTube videos, but it works great and it'll also clone an encrypted hard drive be it Truecrypt or VeraCrypt. I suppose BitLocker would fall into this category as well. Though, I'd never trust BitLocker if my life depended on it. Can the NSA Break Microsoft's BitLocker? - Schneier on Security
(Note the comments mention the Elcomsoft product. That only works with a RAM capture or hibernation capture.)

No I am not doing anything in registry. In msconfig I saw what looked like a registry entry (HKLM etc) and after I was told how to find it, saw that many programs were listed in that location.

It seems like a waste of Sevenforums time to go through much more on it: a pound of cure for an ounce of trouble. Seeing that scannow was just annoying. But you are right. It is Reflect crap. I never asked for
notifications to pop up constantly when I put the sample install on to just to look at.

In doing search questions for Reflect Removal it said something about using the Rescue Disk
to do some cleaning procedure. I have an older Rescue disk I made years ago in another attempt to
use the program. There's just too much to figure out with all this for a small problem.

Maybe Clonezilla has evolved. I have a Clonezilla Linux disk from years ago. As you say it needs special knowledge or at least familiarity with the hardware and language of back up. I kept the disk but don't use it.

I'll report back if I'm able to do the Autoruns in your previous post.

In addition to the Idea of cloning, I recommend using backup software to also create full images of the OS partitions and the data partitions onto external media.

Incidentally, I have used Resplendence's Registrar Registry Manager to root out pesky items, however, it is a mixed blessing! Often I get away with using RRM and everything is aok, sometimes, I have to reach into my tiny safe for the restore drive.

(Laughing) Sorry, it feels like Ground Hog Day to me. Resplendence and the rest I recall from the

earlier discussion of how to back up. What I've done,m since I have quite a collection of old
motherboards networked together, is have what amounts to a mirror system if a real problem
occurs. Noneof it is very consequential except for some media archives.

I will follow up on Autoruns b/c the description looks interesting. There are many things I don't
    know about operating systems.
