Acer Aspire 1680 sound card not recognised

Hi,

I am having an Acer Aspire 1680 notebook with an AC'97 compatible soundcard apparently from Conexant, however unfortunately Windows 7 does not seem to recognise it automatically. I can install the XP drivers successfully but then all playback is stuttering and laggy. I also searched for Vista AC97 drivers respectively Vista Conexant drivers but they all do not appear to be compatible.

Does anybody know whether there is a working driver for Windows 7? Thanks very much.

I had exactly the same issue with my Aspire 1692. For me this HP Driver * worked. Though, since the automatic Setup didn't work, I had to add the Driver manually.

Thank you, I just tried installing it but trying to apply the driver on the recognised audio item only told me no suitable driver was found in the given directory (C:\swsetup\SP35684\V32).

Installing it forcefully by going through "Install new hardware" gave me initially immediately a bluescreen, then after the reboot the audio card is gone from the unknown "Other devices" entry and actually shows up as working under "Sound controllers", however the device status tells me "No drivers are installed for this device." even though the "Driver Details" list eight files and audio still does not work.

One thing I am worrying about is that the 1680 might not have the same audio card as the 169* as it specifically names
Conexant Audio Driver 6.13.10.8335 and Audio Driver Conexant 6.13.10.8335 for the latter (169*) but only a generic WDM driver for AC97 Audio devices 6.13.10.8310 for the former (1680).

Any further ideas maybe? Thanks again.

Thanks again, I finally got it working by going through Windows Update. Although the XP drivers seem to come from Conexant, 7 recognised it as Intel 82801DB/DBM AC '97 card.

I hope this will be helpful to someone else encountering the same problem, so far I have found an installable file (not tested but probably only for XP unfortunately) at the pay/signup site DriverGuide and also at 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download 82801DB_DBM_DA_AC97.zip alternatively one can also search for 82801DB_DBM_DA_AC97.zip

I was just about to post, that there is no mentioning at all of a Conexant Audio Driver for the 1680 on the Acer (Europe) Support-Site and FTP; but that might well explain that.

PS: On my system it's a 'Conexant AC-Link Audio'. Just in case, if somebody else runs into trouble with that Chip.

I just tested the mentioned driver and it works on 7 as well (it is slightly older than the one from Windows Update however). I uploaded it to http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QZXZ7PO1 too.

Same Problem

I installed Win7-32bit on my Acer Aspire 1692. Parallel I have Vista-32bit.
Under Vista my Audio Device is called "Conexant AC-Link". And it works fine.
Now with Win7 running it sounds like a jumping cd.
So I tried the drive from the vista windows/system32 -> same problem

If I try to install the driver from HP (killercat wrote). I got a blue screen and cant install it.

And acer has no support for aspire 1692 and vista.

May be someone has another idea.

Hmm...interesting it also didn't work on your 1692.
Yesterday I had the same problems with those drivers on a friend's Aspire 1694. Maybe I was just lucky that they worked for me.

Anyway, in his case, installing this Driver from Gateway (v6.14.10.590) got it working. I also tried this driver on my notebook afterwards, and it works.

The setup would fail, so be sure to force-feed it via Update Driver --> Browse my Computer --> Let me pick from a list --> Have Disk

Win will nag that it's not the right driver, just accept and reboot. Should work fine.

may be we have different versions of the aspire. i bought m notebook in june 2006 (centrino 1,5GHz)

yeah it works, now fixing my tvcard and there it goes.
