my audigy 4 also makes crappling noise like "i am robot" but this issue exist since 7 appeared. under xp my audigy 4 was perfect. after changing to 64 bit win 7 everithing went wrong. I mean on the input side cuz the output is crystal clear still on 16bit 24bit it doesnt matter. I tried danielk's driver but nothing changed.
anyway go to creative forums and have a look what creative says about this. at the end you will sell your card just because the driver is impossible to be fixed for years by the creative enginiers

anyway this hardware is not an old thing. the features of this card is still above the average but creative has the almighty xfi that they can sell if you cant use your older one which is on the win7 compatible list since the stable driver release.

Creative has a driver for W7 32- and 64-bit, which I am using successfully.

You might also check for an updated VIDEO driver - from the card or chip
    manufacturer's WEB site.

And, click START, then type "performance" (no quotes).
Test disabling the "desktop composition" item, and see if that affects your sound.

Good to hear, mate. No I'm from The States.

Disabling Desktop Composition kills the AERO look, but that eye-candy doesn't affect much else.

Here, Windows Media Center runs - poorly, with some crackling - unless D.T.C. is turned off.
This is likely due to the elder status of my PC. The P4 with 256 video just isn't up to heavy video demands.

So, there comes a time, if you need more horsepower. ^_^
