Why doesn't Windows hold my sound settings?

I have personalized Window's sound settings so that I only get sounds when I want them for certain occurrences. However, there are times when the sound settings just revert back to Window's default sound settings. I have no idea why this happens. No problem resetting my sounds, but it is annoying when the sounds, for no apparent reason, revert back to default.

    Hello Adam,

Did you happen to change themes when this happened? By default, the sounds will change to whatever theme you are using. If you say selected to use the default Windows Aero after making sound changes, then you would get the default sounds again.

You could use step 9 in OPTION ONE of the tutorial below to save your Sounds scheme to a file to make selecting it again easier if it should get changed by mistake. :)
    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Thanks, Brink. Now that you mention it, the changing of sounds does seem to be related to changing themes. I do have a file for my sounds and thought that when chosen, it would be my default sounds...but obviously, not so.

BTW, my themes often will freeze on just one picture and then I have to re-set themes again...but have failed to reset the sounds. Can't figure out why the freezing occurs so often?

Do you mean freezing with a desktop slide show?

If you have not already, it wouldn't hurt to double check to make sure that you have the latest video drivers installed, and that your WEI score is updated.

Correct, Desktop slide show freezes every so often.
I have checked on updating the video drivers, but on questioning in various forums, most folks suggested that I leave well-enough alone; so I didn't do anything.

Here's a shot of my WEI. Is it alright? Any suggestions?

Try running System Restore to restore to a time before these issues started. Here is how to do that: System Restore

    Adam,

Are the file sizes of any of the images very large. If so, that may cause a delay while loading it.

I'd also recommend what Caleb posted above if you have a restore point available before this started.
