Well, I guess I'll do a clean install then. Who knows how many other technical issues there are that are caused by old stuff carried over on the HDD anyways. Even if this doesn't solve the sound issue it'll be nice to get a fresh start anyways. I'll just buy a sound card, no big deal. I'll come back later after it's done to leave an update on the situation. Wish me luck!

If you were close enough I'd help you out. I'm in Inverness (about 65 miles north of Tampa).

Well a problem lies here. You have a OEM Windows 7 installation which is only allowed to be installed on one computer. It can not be moved to another computer like a Retail version. You have changed the motherboard which Microsoft considers at that time as being another computer. Therefor you are needing another COA key. You might have some luck calling Microsoft and explaining your problem to them that you replaced the motherboard.

Very true. An OEM licensed version of the operating system is only legally licensed for the PC it was delivered with (or initially installed on).

@fireberd That's nice of you but it all worked out. Turns out it wasn't OEM apparently because the key that that 'speccy' program gave me actually worked. The windows 7 re installation worked great and it did fix the sound for the most part and even fixed the loudness of the CPU fan for some reason. Some sounds in games and videos are just a tad bit loud so am I going to have to deal with that or is there anything else I could do? If not, I guess I can deal with that or buy a sound card if it bothers me too much.

Actually fireberd there was something a while ago re where we are supposed to download the ISO from and I think I am right in saying it is only the Dell site as in this tutorial because of some issues with Microsoft but I stand to be corrected.

I have the Win 7 ISO downloaded, from the Digital River site. But, it has been a while ago (before Win 8 came out).

The Digital River downloads will work with OEM or retail product codes.

Eh, after almost a day of testing out the sound, the volume levels still are a little weird so I'll just buy that sound card. The fresh windows installation was not done in vain though, since it fixed many other problems and it was nice to get a fresh start and get rid of all of that bloat on the HDD. I guess it's appropriate to mark this problem as solved then. Thanks for all the help everyone! It's been swell!

Yes I know it will firebird but the Admin were saying that there was some issue with Microsoft and us using that site still. I don't know if it was something to do with copyright or what but this was the only link that is sanctioned in here now - but I stand to be corrected of course.
