    Folder and files encryption

    Hello to all,

I'm using my win7 computer at work logged as a domain user on the corporate network. I want to protect my data and restrict other domain users/admins from accessing/viewing those data. I've tried with BitLocker and BitLocker is great to encrypt whole disk or partition but I want to encrypt only certain folders and files.
I know I can encrypt folder or file from windows explorer properties menu but files are still accessible for other users who can log to computer. Also I've tried applications like AxCrypt, Advanced File Encryption Pro and Drag'n'Crypt ULTRA and they all do the same encrypt files, change their extensions and move them to another location.

Is there any application that can encrypt and hide folders and files with password from other users, without moving them to another location or changing their extensions?

I think you have to find a u-pick-the-folder(s) to protect-with-password(s) utility. To me, that is the only way to do what you want.

    I'm sorry I didn't understand this "find a u-pick-the-folder(s) to protect-with-password(s) utility"?

Maybe I didn't explain well what I need. I need a utility which will provide me protection - hide and encrypt or just hide certain folders and files from other domain users on my corporate network because anyone can log to my computer with his domain user name and password any time when I'm not at work and access those data. In other hand when I log with my domain user name I want to see and have access to those "locked" folders and files without having to "unlock" them every time if it is possible. If it isn't possible it is ok to "unlock" them with one click, master password or something like that. Actually I need something like BitLocker but for folders and files not for whole drive.

In this situation for just files you might want to explore the now defunct Truecrypt or Veracrypt. In Truecrypt or Veracrypt you would create an encrypted container that is larger than all the files you have to encrypt plus future data storage. This container is like a removable hard drive once the password is provided it shows up under the My Computer icon as a hard drive. Read their manuals and read them well. In a domain environment/work environment you have now, you run the risk of a keylogger either software or hardware based stealing your password or getting malware from an email attachment, etc that can steal your password.

This won't encrypt folders though. You have to move the folder data inside the encrypted container.

Check here for other possible solutions.

Earlier, I meant: finding a program that will encrypt and password the folders of your choosing. Those encrypted/passworded folders should prevent the copying of, moving of, reading of, writing to, the files within the encrypted/passworded folders.

Yes exactly, I need a program with those features. Do you have any to suggest?

    P. S. Those mentioned VeraCrypt or TrueCrypt are powerful tools but I don't want to move files to some kind of encrypted container.

The others will have to weigh in, I never did password folders. I am trying Anywhere Bitlocker on two tiny data partitions.

In meanwhile I've tried another two applications SecretFolder and Lock-A-Folder. They aren't bad, they are very similar. Both of them use one master password for all locked folders. But big disadvantage is lack of locking files and every different user runs new instance of application and new master password must be set.
So far best application I've managed to find is Wise Folder Hider. Wise Folder Hider can hide both folders and files. It has portable version so there is no need to install it and every different domain user must enter same master password to access locked files. I didnt tested how protection works when someone boot hirens boot cd and has access to files offline...
Another way of protection I've tried is with giving permissions through Windows Security tab. I've managed to allow full control permissions only to my domain account and local administrators and deny all to others. But I'm not sure how safe is this method and also with this method it is impossible to restrict domain administrators...

    Hi

not my area either, but im intrigued by this in your first post,

I've tried applications like AxCrypt, Advanced File Encryption Pro and Drag'n'Crypt ULTRA and they all do the same encrypt files, change their extensions and move them to another location.

If this was another partition, then could you not Encrypt the drive and password protect it

By "move them to another location" I meant that application encrypts the original files and move them to some kind of protected container or virtual drive and thus needs additional disk space on hard drive. I don't want that I want application that will lock, hide or encrypt files with password or another way but without physical moving, changing files etc..
