Avast gives you rock solid protection !

I had various "annoying" problems with Norton AV in the past. For that reason i simply will not have anything from Norton on PC any more (for now). It's a bit the same as with buying a new car. You buy a Ford (just an example or people call me a Ford hater which i'm not) and find out it's crap, you buy your next car which still is a Ford and you still find it's crap. Then you buy your 3th car and again you buy a Ford and again you have issues with it. If you buy then your 4th car and go for a GM car people say: why didn't you buy a Ford? They have become better you know...
I have the same with Norton...

I always used to HATE Norton with a passion.

But the newest incarnation, 2010, is actually quite good.

Its been rated as one of the best this year in AV tests, so I thought id give it a try.

I must say, I was quite surprised.
Easy on resources, high detection rate... yet low rate of false positives.

Perhaps not the very best of all choices, but its up there in the top few.

It's come along way, and by no means the resource hog it used to be.

Its also one of the fastest scanners now .....

Not saying everyone go get Norton its the best ... just simply saying .. the new 2010 is far better than most would think. its nothing like older versions.

+1

Lol, good Q Dinesh; well, version 4 is still working fine for me; I do love the new Avast interface et al. but I thought - it ain't broke...no doubt Avast will prompt for the update soon enough. In fact, I wonder why it hasn't - maybe as it still remains in beta?

Hiya,
Sorry to randomly jump in, im new.

I have ALWAYS used avast, 4.8 and now 5.0 and it has never let me down. 4.8 picked up a low level trojan after I installed windows update (always hated windows update, anybody can replicate it) but that was 4.8 (old version) on a new windows 7. The new avast 5 is brilliant, takes up less RAM consumption than 4.8 and as always. Does it's job in silence, never pesters me with "are you sure you wanna open that?", "that could be malicious!", and thankfully it now has files + folders, size, infected files, data speed and time elapsed showing so I can see exactly what's going on. Fingers crossed avast 5 picks up infections as soon as it's aware without me having to scan to find it.

And now i'm having second thoughts..Using MSE now, thought of switching to Avast.:zip:

Both are very good & come highly recommended by many reputiable members

I have used both & have chosen one over the other because it is what i like in an AV

I still recommend the other to many people as i feel it would better suit their particular needs

Try both indivdually for a period of time & you will find which one is for you
:D

I understand you but after using kaspersky internet security for the last two year and today switching to inernet security 2010...... EVERYTHING is better, fast pc, no internet speed slowdowns, detect my devices, etc..

As a kid my mum always had Norton on the PC's and every one of them has crashed, I was only a kid so didnt know much about systems but the last tower had norton installed and got an infection, I didn't use it much but when I decided to try fix it, I struggled to get anything come up. I tried safe mode, bios menu, everything but it did more damage everytime I switched it on. Norton should have picked that up which does question whether they update their virus database.

The one problem with avast 5 is the boot-time scan isn't available on 64-bit systems yet.
