Solved 0x1a, 0xc4, 0x4e BSOD on custom build, possible ram voltage problem

I downloaded the legit Windows 7 x64 Iso without an activation to test the build before my OS order arrives. I have been getting multiple BSODs including MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION, and PFN_LIST_CORRUPT. I have installed windows multiple times with similar problems. I also switched the HDD with another to rule out a bad HDD and got the same problems.

Also: Memtested 7 passes so I don't think its the memory itself that is the problem. I did read from another thread it could be voltage issues between the RAM and motherboard. I also could not finish installing the Nvidia driver due to the Driver_verifier BSOD. All other drivers are updated from the manufacturer website.

I have encountered the BSOD randomly while installing programs but most often with the windows installer and windows update.

I am running out of ideas and have narrowed it down to voltage issues (can't think of anything else) but I am unsure as how to fix it, so any help is greatly appreciated.

BTW: no antivirus yet, or any installed programs besides CPUZ, 9,9,9,24, 1600 for RAM

Hi there, thanks for helping me btw.

So after I disabled driver verifier, there hasn't been any BSODs. I tested this by installing and running Path of Exile, which has been a constant source of BSODs and appcrashes. Fortunately, I was able to finish the install and actually run the game. However, I have gotten several appcrashes (related to internet explorer and malwarebytes) a WMI error, and several service control errors. I have no idea whether these errors have to do with my problem so some help/advice would be appreciated.

Also, I forgot to mention this but I am using a rosewill RNX-N250Pce wireless adapter and after downloading the driver from the website and installing it, Windows said it didn't install correctly even though I could still use wireless internet.

But, so far, no BSOD problems.

Actually you had no issue there. Dont know why and how (may be you know), but you had driver verifier enabled. Driver Verifier is a very powerful tool to put the drivers in stress, so it is supposed to cause BSODs. And that is why verifier is to be used only at the suggestion of any BSOD analyst.

Hopefully you will not face any more BSODs.

Considering your case as solved for now (I found no problem there that may cause a BSOD). If the issues start again, let us know.

EDIT: You said your windows is not yet activated? Care to activate it ... it is needed. You can buy a license online very easily and quickly.

So after using the computer for the rest of the day with no BSODs, I got a BSOD when I was making my computer go to sleep. I didn't know there was a BSOD until today when I noticed the "computer has shut down unexpectedly error.

Its a stop 0x4E ... caused either by a failing device driver or by a failing RAM; mostly.

As Driver verifier is not pointing to anything that we have seen lately, we need to test the memory modules.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

If errors/red lines starts to appear, stop testing and report us back.

I have memtested before for 7 passes and I did it again overnight for 6 more passes, no errors. Is this alright (for total of 13 passes) instead of 8 passes in 1 go, and are you sure it can't be anything besides a bad ram?

Also, I was using another HDD and have since reinstalled everything on my old HDD. Since then, I've had no major problems like BSODs until today, when I got a PFN_LIST_CORRUPT seconds after League of Legends crashed with a nvd3dum.dll error. This, I presume is related to the nvidia driver, which I haven't updated to the lastest version. I don't believe my ram is bad or there is something wrong with my HDD, so I'm just making sure if it will be fixed if I updated the graphics driver (heard some bad things about the latest nvidia one though).

BSOD4EVER, quick note about Memtest86+.
You have the 4th generation Intel CPUs Haswell as of the time of writing this post
Memtest86+ does not support this platform (version 5 is still in beta) so the RAM tests
could be false.

I suggest that if you have an older Chipset Motherboard possibly z77,
that you test the RAM on that platform, also to get an better representation of the RAM
modules you need to have the test fo through at least 8 consecutive runs!

Testing the HDD is not a bad idea.

Testing the HDD:

1. Perform a Disk Check | http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html
2. Then Post the results following | THIS METHOD
3. Download SeaTools for Windows if you don't want to use a CD to test the HDD you can use YUMI – Multiboot USB Creator to create a bootable USB (instructions are found at the bottom of both page).

I have a H87M Pro4 Asrock Mobo. How would you run a Memtest on a Mobo platform? And are there other ways to check for a bad ram besides memtest that is compatible with Intel 4th gen CPU? I will run a chkdsk and post it here.

I updated the driver like you asked but I still got a BSOD. At this point, how likely is it that the problem us a bad RAM?

This bugcheck came back as a faulty nVidia driver.
nVidia 7series cards are currently having issues with their drivers, take out your GTX760
and use the iGPU (for troubleshooting purposes) until nvidia fixes their current lineup of drivers.
Doing that will also help determine whether the RAM is at fault as well.

Since we can't test the RAM I want to ask you to enable Driver Verifier once more.

While the GPU is NOT installed.

So I have swapped the RAM with another pair of the same model/size, and the BSODs as well as multiple appcrashes have stopped happening. I'll mark this thread as solved, since it's pretty obvious now that bad RAM was the cause of the BSODs. Thanks for helping me.
