I tried to run the Windows 7 DeviceCenterDiagnostic.diagcab

It always gives the error:

“An error occurred while troubleshooting:
A problem is preventing the troubleshooter from starting.
Package ID: DeviceCenterDiagnostic
Path: Unknown
Error code: 0x80070002
Source: Engine
User: mystic 1- PC\Ad m inistrator
Context: Elevated”

Note that Windows Update is working normally.

  • SFC /Scannow showed no problems.
  • Even when rebooting into safe mode the same error is generated.
  • I did a startup repair that did not fix the problem.
  • I did a a Windows 7 repair install with all the following Windows updates.
  • Following repair install, in normal or in safe mode the same error occurs.

I had experienced occasional freezing of keyboard function and mouse function except that the mouse could be moved but would not click. Since doing the reinstall I've not had a freeze but am waiting to see.
