I'm getting this error after a forced shut down. I'm told to insert installation disk and repair but I don't get this option, I'm just returned to the same error message. I have tried restarting and loading windows from the installation disc. I'm told that windows is loading and the windows logo appears but after a while it goes to a black screen with only the mouse cursor showing.

You may want to do a repair install.. This will show you how to do a repair upgrade install to fix your currently installed Windows 7 and preserve your user accounts, data, programs, and system drivers.

Thanks for the quick response but the option you have suggested is only possible from within windows. I cannot get windows to boot so it is not possible.

Install your Windows dvd and boot from it.. select repair option ...

Hello, This issue may occur if the Security Accounts Manager file (SAM) is corrupted or missing. You cannot use the repair process or the recovery console to resolve this issue. These methods require authentication, which cannot occur if the SAM file is corrupted or missing
You must perform a clean installation.
