0xc0000005 error when opening Chrome; other .dll file loading errors

I am using a 64-bit Windows 7 on an HP Pavilion laptop, and after waking the computer from hibernation today, I attempted to open Google Chrome but received a 0xc0000005 error. In addition, multiple other applications like Microsoft Word and Dropbox failed, with various .dll file errors and bad image errors (the most notable one of which was "WTSAPI32.dll is not designed to run on Windows").

I used System Restore to restore it to the point before the most recent Windows update, which allowed me to reinstall Chrome and access Microsoft Office again, but still gave me .dll file errors for DivX upon startup (and has't let me reinstall Dropbox). In addition, when booting up after the system restore, a disk consistency check was done that I believe resulted in the deletion/correction of tons of files.

In addition, Windows Update does not start and it gives me this dialog upon starting up:
"Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer".
I did just that, but to no avail. In addition, when restarting the computer, Windows was apparently configuring some updates, but performed 3 shutdown/restart cycles and finally said "reverting changes" before I could log in.

Any advice on what to do from now?

Hi christino, Welcome to Sevenforums.

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005)" when starting Google Chrome please try the following:
1. Right click the Chrome application from Start --> All Programs --> Google Chrome (or shortcut if you launch Chrome from a desktop shortcut)
2. Select Properties
3. Select the Compatibility tab
4. In the Compatibility mode section, make sure the checkbox is unchecked for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"

Regarding Windows update issue. See this article

Perhaps I should be more clear - Google Chrome and Microsoft Office are working fine now, but I'm getting tons of error messages like the ones I've attached. I've also done a scan of the system files using cmd, and it appears that some files are corrupted but not automatically fixable.

You have a corrupted Visual C++ 2005 dll file, you will need to rename the old one and download and replace it with the following...

THIS IS FOR BAD IMAGE ONLY OR ANY OTHER ERRORS.

The mscvr80.dll is corrupted, caused by a change made by another software application perhaps.

Download the msvcr80.dll here DLL-files.com - msvcr80.dll

Ok now navigate to the folder the dll is stored (paste it in):
C:\windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.vc80.crt.1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.6195_none_d09154e044272b9a\

Now paste the new msvcr80.dll file you downloaded into the folder, if there is already one there, rename the old one or move it.

Now you're done.

If that doesn't work, uninstall Visual C++ 2005 and reinstall it
