Solved 0xF4/0x7A BSOD Issues while Gaming

Since I updated to Windows7 x64 SP1 I am repeatedly getting BSODs only when playing games e.g.
Witcher 2, Alice, Sanctum, Hunted: Demon's Forge, Hydrophobia, Left4Dead etc. (not really entirely reproducible)
Some other games, even 3D intensive ones either run without issues or I haven't run into them yet.

It started with a few "KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR" (0x7a with Parameter 2 as 9d)... I only got one of those dumps, the very first because for some reason it didn't (and still doesn't) save all dumps to disk as they happen, but seems to freeze with that typical audio-stutter before it can manage to do that sometimes.
- I let memtest86 run for 2 passes and didn't find any errors. (I can probably let it run for a lot of passes some night while I'm sleeping)
- I changed the pagefile to different disks
- I moved the system disk (WD Caviar Black 1TB) from a SATA3 6GBps slot to another one in the belief it might be a controller issue.
- I did a Bootup CHKDSK (and the system did it by itself several times after BSODs and fixed some corrupt entries)
- I regurarly check the Harddrives Statuses with HDTune and they all seem fine/healthy.

Afterwards I've had a lot of "CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION" (0xf4 with Parameter1 as 03)
- I checked the temperature of both CPU/GPU and it seems to stay "normal".
- I updated the BIOS, chipset drivers, video drivers (also tried reverting video drivers)
- I checked my system with Avira and MSE and took a look at usual Run/RunOnce registry entries + HiJackThis logs
- I tried underclocking my graphics card
- I probably also did several other things I can basically not remember and I have totally run out of ideas...

System:
CPU: Intel Core i7 950
MoBo: ASUS Sabertooth x58
RAM: 6GB (3x2GB of Corsair XMS3)
GPU: Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce GTX460 (1GB Model)
PSU: Enermax Liberty 500W

Two causes

1-Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%.

They use a driver, found in your dmp,sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs.

Use this SPTD uninstaller DuplexSecure - Downloads

when you're done you can use this Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) in its place.


2-csrss.exe. Csrss.exe can either be a system file or malware. If located in system 32 is probably a system file., IF not probably malware.

If in system 32 I would run a system file check

In any case I would download malwarebytes or super anti spyware and run it

- I let MemTest run for another 4 passes with 0 Errors.
- I did what you asked (removed SPTD/Daemon Tools), let SUPERAntiSpyware run and it didn't find anything aside of 80 Tracking Cookies that it removed.
- The Client Server Runtime Process runs from "System32" and has 2 Processes open.

After that I did the best I know to reproduce another BSOD quickly by running the game "Sanctum" through Steam, making a Server with a Multiplayer map and Alt+TAB some and it happened again.
I got another KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR with 0x7a and Parameter2 being 0e: Bug Check 0x7A: KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR

It might be because I switched the Pagefile back to C:\ for testing purposes yesterday otherwise I usually get CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION... the two seem to intermix though, unfortunately as I said the system doesn't save every dump-file pointing to some sort of storage/power issue...

Still some ideas I might try in case noone got another Hint:
1) Open and clean my case thourougly.
2) Try to change SATA-cables for new ones
3) Check my Power Supply Unit by trying to use another one (I got a Tagan 600W in another PC)
4) Run Prime95 (ran Prime for about 3+ hours now, nothing special... especially no crashes aside of a increased CPU temperature of about 70°C)
5) Trying to disable OnBoard Sound and use my old X-Fi X-Treme Music again.

Had another 6-7 BSOD's while trying to play a round of League of Legends, it saved 4 dumps to the disk, all again "CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION" (0xf4 with Parameter1 as 3) on different adresses "caused" by different drivers :/

Some additional information I could gather from the experience though, is that there seems to be "Microlag" for a few seconds before a crash happens... sometimes it just lags and recovers, other times it BSOD's

During that time I seem to be getting spikes of DCP latency on the OS, see image in Attachments.
Also the 4 new dumps.

Have you been running the Malwarebytes yet? It's very likely this is malware!

Just did a Full Scan with Malwarebytes with no results.
Also find it highly unlikely that it is Malware seeing as the problem only appears while playing games...
Kind of suspect it might be related to either the graphics card or the PSU and will try to look into those next if there's no other hints

Based on this case which seems to have had both the exact same symptoms and error codes as mine:

I ran Furmark, Video Card Stability Test and 3DMark 11 to stress my GPU (GPU temp went up to 80°C at times) but they all ran fine with no crashes or other problems.

I also cleaned all PC components of dust after that, used a Driver Sweeper: Driver Sweeper - Download - CHIP Online to remove all past NVIDIA driver components that might have remained and checked/improved some BIOS settings regarding my RAM. I disabled the JMicron eSata controller, Marvell SATA3 Controller and RealTek OnBoard sound altogether from BIOS to rule them out without any success (still crashing)

Exchanging my video card against a really old/crappy GeForce 8400GS I had lieing around and trying to provoke a crash by running that game "Sanctum" that always crashed at about the same spot and it didn't/I couldn't reproduce, but the card is so different from the GTX460 there might be other elements involved. It can't even start the other sure-fire way I found for crashing (running Total War: SHOGUN2 DX11 High Graphics Demo after which it starts to stutter or lag with the image standing still for several seconds, it might resume and do it again at some point, but it always crashes after a while) on any settings.

Will try with another Graphics card I can get tomorrow (NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800) and/or exchange my Power Supply Unit with a Tagan 600W and see if that helps... Short of reinstalling Windows 7 after that I'd be out of ideas.
Here are some more dumps, that should be about the same as the others before xD

- Tried it with the NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800 without changing anything (even worked with same driver), problems didn't occur.
- Changed the graphics card back to my GTX 460, put the Tagan 600W Power Supply in, problems didn't occur so far.

So I guess in my case it was just a problem of peak voltage during some games, just weird that it didn't occur on a few others like Dungeon Siege 3 or F3AR at all. Well I guess problem solved (so far) xD

i have this same issue. my knowledge about this erros is vey limited so wat shoul i do ? the problem was the power supply or the video card?
