I have a Windows 7 Enterprise box that when started will only create 2 of 3 mapped network drives. This does not happen every time either, just about 2-3 days of the 5 day work week. 2 of the drives are mapped via a script, while the 1 drive that is the problem child is set through the Properties-->Profile-->Home Folder of the user on our AD box. We have set the drop down letter to H and verified the path. It is correct, as it works some days.

Any ideas what may cause this?

Thank you in advance for your time.

Why bother mapping a drive via a script??? What was there some special reason you did it that way? Seems waaaay more difficult that it has to be...

Thank you for the response Darryl, I as beginning to think I wouldn't get one.

The two drives mapped via a script have been set up that way since before I arrived here. They work, so I never bothered to mess with them. It is the drive that is set in the user properties under the Profile Tab then Home Folder option that is not always reconnecting upon logging in. Any insight or suggestions would be very appreciated.

I used logon script at work too. Our scipt has Ingroup and add mapped drive to that effect which means if you are part of a usergroup you get mapped to the shares allocated to that group. Is that how yours is?

If so check the group that you are missing the drive mapping, it could be you have been removed.

No everyone is in the same group and this only seems to be happening to one or two people. The script is really simple and straight forward. However, the drive that is not reconnecting is not set in a script but rather through the properties of the user Profile tab, Home Folder settings. See image in post above.

Thank you

If all users are in the same group I am still wondering why the script... how many total users are you talking about here? I am also assuming that the drive you are mapping resides on the win2K8 server, and that the server is always on...???

Hello and thank you for the reply. As my name implies I am stumbling through this. I came on board as someone with the most technical knowledge in the bunch, no formal training. As a not for profit, cost is always the priority and as such we don't have a lot to spend on IT support. The system was set up when I started. That is why the script is in place. I am unaware of any other way to map out drives for users automatically, so thought if it works leave it alone.
We have anywhere between 25-35 users at any given time, depending on the time of year. The drive (Home Folder Path) that is mapped resides on the Win2K8 server and it is always on.
Forgive me, but I feel that we are not addressing the point, unless the script could be causing problems with the users properties window--> profile -->Home Folder. If that is possible then as I said, please forgive me. It is the Home Folder that is not reconnecting. The drives in the script work all the time without fail. It is just the Home Folder mapping down on the server that seems to disconnect sporadically.

I hope I don't across as ignorant or rude.

Thank you for any help.

No, your not coming off as rude.

25-35 users/pc's is why the script is used. Otherwise you whould have to go to each client PC and manually setup the mapped drives individually!

If the server was off sometimes, then that might explain why the drives didnt map all the time.

The problem is only with this one Win7 Ent. box right?
When it fails to map the drive can you manually search for the mapped directory on the server? If not, do you receive an error?
If no problem manually connecting to the folder on the server, your issue may be as simple as a bad cable/port on that Win7 Ent box or its switch/hub/router...

Thank you for the response.
Yes, just the one Win 7 Ent box. Funny though I have another user same set up that has difficulty saving Office files at times to the server and freezes during the copying of a large file from the desktop to the server. Not sure if even related, thought I would post it though.

I will have to wait till the next failure to check what you have asked, should be this week. I will post the results.

Thank you again!
