1 second gap every 60 seconds

Hello there,

It has been some time now I was trying to figure out what the heck is wrong in my network. I tried 3 different routers and I get the same results. I tried two different computer - the result is the same. My ISP (ADSL24) says that all is ok with my line.

Here's the link to the screen. The top graph is for LAN only and the bottom is for internet connection.

The blue vertical lines is the 3 minute interval, the green line is when... something is happening on the network every 60 seconds. The speed of those green lines is above 2mbps.Green means download on LAN.

Red color on LAN is upload speed and blue color on internet graph is the upload speed.

Sometimes those 1 second gaps are not visible at all, but this is getting on my nerves now as nothing seems to help.

I have two network cards in my pc. Tried to turn one and other on and off and all act the same.

I use uTorrent a lot, pretty much all the time when my pc is on. Utorrent starts with the systems and all seems fine until I open utorrent. At a very early stage when PC is powered on, when utorrent is opened those 1 second gaps are actually longer. The gap is between 15-20 seconds. When I say gap it means like the router is entirely off. The whole network stops to ZERO. To get this back to... sort of.. normal I have to reboot the router several times, log off and log in on my pc couple of times. I have about 400 torrents running in utorrent. I've noticed that when I stop all torrents and then start them gradually, not all at the same time it seems fine, but those 1 second gaps are still occurring.

Like I said, this is really getting on my nerves now, as I can't find the fault.

The current router I'm using is the Netgear DG834GT with modified firmware from GT team. Always been using it with no problems. I even tried flashing the router with the original newer firmware and the problem persists.

It's really really really annoying. I don't know what to do...

Please help! I don't really want to spend any more money on new router which won't help

Basically I don't turn my pc off now, because if I do I'll get nightmares again. All seemed to be caused by the utorrent or its connections, but I've never had this problem before.. Never

Is there a free software that will allow me to monitor exactly what happens on my system?

Seems like you've already pinpointed the culprit.
May just be too much at once.

You can look int he task manager/ Resource Monitor / Network tab
to monitor you Connections and bandwidth usage.


Might be a good Idea to run Malwarebytes and a Good virus Scan to rule out Malware/Viruses.

I've never had this problem. I've ran out of ideas now. Whatever I do it seems that everything takes me back to the utorrent itself. Since I tried 3 different routers (I am about to try another one today) 3 different makes and they all act the same. That 1-2 second gap freezes the whole router. However, my girlfriends laptop can access internet just fine during this time, so it makes me think that there is something going on within my pc.

but then again I tried utorrent on my girlfriends laptop with just 1 torrent and the same thing happens. Not every 60 seconds, but it happens.

So because different routers act in the same way and whenever I run utorrent on whatever PC it could be down to the utorrent itself. I've been trying to figure this out for weeks...

A standard router is only designed to handle around 4000 connections, each torrent (using the default settings) uses between 300-500 connections for both download and upload. So effectively you're flooding your network internally and externally.
You need to change your maximum connections per torrent in your utorrent settings, otherwise you're effectively DDoS'ing (Distributed Denial of Service) Denial-of-service attack - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia yourself.
Your currently trying to push about 200,000 connections (with all 400 torrents running) through your internet.
Either set priorities for your downloading and seeding or limit yourself to under 10 torrents.

BTW, What on earth are you downloading?

I would recommend being very very careful using any kind of torrent. Many very bad things come from there use. You have to make sure where you are getting things from and weather they are legal or not.
