1080 Videos Without a Bluray Burner

Hi all,

Just a quick question (part of me is telling me it's a stupid one).

I have a large quantity of 1080p video files, some upwards to around 40Gb-50GB. I only have a dual layer DVD burner with DL discs.

Is there a program that I can use that might trim them down so that I can watch them on my Bluray player in the other room? For the most part, I watch them here on my desktop so it doesn't usually make for a problem.

There are times, however, that I want to transfer them and watch them in the living room (company, stereo surround sound etc) but they obviously won't fit on a standard DL DVD.

I plan on getting a Bluray player, but that might not be for a while.

I remember using DVDFab not too long ago and from what I can remember it's become full-on payware.

So, if anyone has some suggestions for programs that can help me "trim" the movies I would really appreciate it.

if you can change the bitrate of your video files it might work. Blu-Ray's are about 40 Mbps where a high quality DVD will be about 9 Mbps.

I can do it with Adobe Premiere but I have to convert it to SD video then burn at a max of 8 Mbps. but for the price of Premiere you can probably buy a dozen Blu-Ray burners

You can get about 30 Mins worth of hybrid video onto a standard DVD that will play to full high definition on your Blu Ray or PS3 player. Haven't tried dual layer but should work so perhaps get an hour on one DL disc! Does your Blu Ray player take DL discs? Mine doesn't!
