Hey guys,

So, I'm looking into adding a tv tuner to my pc so that I can "dvr" the tv shows that I like to watch. I don't have cable, so I would only be using this to watch / record "over the air" programming (the basic networks: nbc, abc, cbs, fox).

But I wanted to get some basics clarified here at sevenforums.
  1. Are there any cards that support 1080p broadcasts?
  2. Will I be able to record broadcasts in 1080p (or whatever the max res is for live tv)?
  3. What are the recommended cards?
  4. Is there anything (particular specs) I need to be keeping in mind while shopping?
Thanks a bunch,
Eamon

If it is a high def tunner then it should be 1080 plus the hdtv or screen must support that resolution

well, sure. I'm using a 1080p tv as my monitor (running through an ATI radeon card and an HDMI cable).

Ok then you should be solid quality wise

Now for the Tuner in question that is up to you but there should be some great hd tunners and since you run with ati why not get the diamond pci tv tunner

Also have you looked into streaming sites alot of them do 1080p and you could capture just like live television feed just a few options to look into

GoodLuck!

I believe 1080i is the highest quality for OTA digital HD broadcasts and there are a lot of great tuners out there. Just go to NewEgg and check out all of the ratings on the various tuners that fit your needs.
