15min Loading time for network connection?

Computer takes 15mins to fully connect to network on start up. This stops other programs from working until it is fully connected. Windows 7 circle loading graphic just keeps turning on the network connection icon on the task bar although internet connection works.

Tried turning of start up programs and reinstalling driver for tp-link tl-wn851n network card. No change to loading time.

Any ideas?

Do you have your anti-virus set to scan at start up?

Hi 25bbxt and welcome to Windows 7 Forums

Are you connecting wirelessly, or via Ethernet cable? If via cable, have you tried removing the card and plugging directly into the network port on the motherboard?

Any similar problems with a fixed Ethernet connection? In addition to what others said, could u try - just momentarily - disabling the antivirus software and see what happens? Is this a new machine, has the problem issue always existed from inception? Have u run a virus scan? I know u mentioned nothing was in startup but what about the msconfig utility - could u take a look inside and untick unimportant programs.

Disclaimer: I am not a networking guru. I do not know what causes this behavior. I do not know how to solve the problem.

But I get the same behavior on my W7 computer. Mine only lasts 60 seconds, occurs only occasionally, and I have internet connection while the blue wheel spins around. http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/58645-delayed-network-connection-issue.html

I am assuming that, like me, you have 3 or more computers and/or network devices on your LAN. What I *think* is happening is that the computer and the router are resolving ip address mismatches on their tables. If you open Windows Explorer while the behavior is happening I bet you will see magnifying glasses rotating on the Computer and Network folders. It seems the OS is resolving shares or something. Why your lasts 15 minutes is strange. If I'm right then that would mean your network addresses can't be resolved.

As a start you can check the following (provided to me by others):

Make sure the Computer Browser and Network Awareness services are set to Auto on all computers on the network.

Make sure you have "Register with DNS" checked in all network adapters.

Here are commands to refresh your LAN connection. Use these in the command prompt (doesn't need to be elevated):
- ipconfig /release - will release your internet connection
- ipconfig /renew - will refresh your internet connection by reacquiring an IP address from your router. You don't need to run ipconfig /release before using this command.
- flushdns - will reacquire DNS information

You could try creating static IP's

I haven't solved my issue yet, mine is more of an annoyance than a problem, I'll post back if I do.

Further to what TV said, I too sporadically get the same prob (blue wheel spinning) but I'm still able to access the Internet. No problems, as one would expect, with a wired connection.

This is a new machine but only noticed the problem after having the computer a while. I did a clean boot according to windows How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 I am assuming this would stop antivirus and all unessential programs. The problem still persists.

I have run a virus scan which didn't pick up anything.

I don't have anything running on fix ethernet connection but have other computers connecting to network via wireless. I haven't had any problems with these computers. I will look into TVebeln suggestions and maybe try creating static ips . . .
The strange thing is I can't change settings like launching msconfig until the 15 minutes are up and the network icon on task bar stops loading and I'm fully connected to the network.

Thanks for all suggestions so far

Sounds like something is loading, or trying to load at startup. Once it's finally loaded then you're set to go.

Have you checked all drivers to make sure they're up to date?
Two things to trouble shoot ... software and hardware.

have you tried disabling the network auto tuning?

Open a command prompt as an admin.

enter: netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

reboot

see if that helps. If not then open the run box and enter: msconfig

Go to the startup tab and uncheck everything then reboot. If the problem does away then

something in your startup is causing the issue.

If the problem persists still, I would like to go to this page and follow the instructions.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796/en-us

It will tell you that this is for a different version of windows (vista) but it also applies to 7.

If you cannot get to that page let me know and I will reprint it here for you.

Have you tried connecting with WPA - PSK instead of WPA2 - PSK?

I've seen over and over again where WPA2 takes 3 dog years to do anything but WPA hooks up right away.... Especially if your signal levels are less than perfect.

I found out what the problem is . . . its basically to do with the print spooler if this isn't running it starts fine. I don't know what to do about it. Any ideas?

The reason I didn't discover it earlier was that I wasn't doing the selective start up properly. So apologies to everyone who pointed me in that direction

Given that the print spooler is related to your specific printer, would an uninstall and reinstall of the drivers (just in case of any corruption) be worth doing? In other words, try removing all remnants of the printer first and then reinstall.
