I didn't have problems with it, but there is two available beta drivers for your card also:
197.57 & 257.15

NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Advanced Search

What errors were you getting? Might want to "test" these betas out, might fix the problem.

You might try telling us what you problem is, as it may not be the driver.

You could also try downgrading to an older driver.

197.45 has been the best performing driver released yet for me. 196.21 previously accomplished this but 197.45 gave me 25% better performance with Just Cause 2 so it definitely took over. The 2xx series beta drivers hurt my performance in many games.

Hey, it's NVIDIA: what do you expect?

OK, seriously. Generally, the question as framed certainly overlooks the wide variations in systems/components/drivers/configurations. Some things simply do not play well together.

I should think a solution will be more readily discerned if you post some details as Lordbob urges. Absent that, I would make this generalization: before upgrading any gfx driver, ALWAYS first uninstall the current driver, reboot, then install the upgrade. ATi, e.g., states this must be done for legacy driver upgrades; I do so for any upgrade.

I have NEVER had a NVidia driver issue in my life. The one time I bought an ATI card, the driver installer crashed 100% of the time until I manually installed it through command prompt.
Just saying ;)

Your installl method is perfect, that is exactly the way to do it.

If you have any more information on your issue, let us know.

The penultimate non sequitur.

Google is awash with NVIDIA driver "perfect" installations that failed. As I stated, mine was a generalization that was offered in good faith.

Sorry if I offended anyone.

i tried the 257 drivers on my other rig , game profiles dont work and if i change a setting for example transparency AA in a game config when i goto set something else such as Gamma AA the previous changed setting reverts back to its default

they keep reverting to 2d clocks ingame and only a reboot will set it back and my overclocks are as unstable as hell , if i were you id stay away from them till they come out of beta

me too same issues as i had with the new 2 series drivers BUT i have found a fix.................uninstall drivers AND physX via control panel , boot into safemode and using DRIVER CLEANER PRO (not driver sweeper) select multiple cleaning filters and clean with Nvidia display and NVidia control panel (i have the full version of DC pro i dont know what options are available on the free version , but its only about 6 quid for a lifetime licence and its saved my life a few times ;) )

then on reboot run the driver install STRAIGHT AWAY before win 7 starts installiong that shitty generic driver ;) you wont need to reboot

For me the only driver with no problem is the shitty generic... but I did not try this driver yet hehe. Got my exams so currently i dont have time to play games.... the only real thing I am missing is temp monitoring and this shitty driver gives me a .1 more on the windows 7 experience rating than 196.21.

My BSOD problems could have been an old usb webcam or maybe the logitech drivers for my G15. Since then I unistalled all those and bought a newer webcam so i will try install a new driver in 3 weeks time when i finish my exams

Speaking of Windows auto installing drivers after Safe Mode & Driver Sweeper/Cleaner Pro ... is there a way to stop auto installing drivers? or have it come up with a window prompt?

Seeing that you got problems I might actually stay with the generic. The only real thing I miss is temp monitoring, I can still play COD4, PES2010, gw with good fps. (have not tried wow yet on windows 7)

Funnily enough the only game I can't currently play is age of empires 2.... (very old) graphics seem corrupt - I only play aoe2 multiplayer but I don't play it much hehe. Tried reinstalling the game but no work.
