1GB ram now showing only 512MB

I am having this same problem.I recently switched from windows 7 ultimate x64 to windows 7 ultimate x32 bit . I have 4 GB RAM usable, now it shows only 3GB as being usable...( in 32 bit windows...)

umm i think windows 7 32-bit supports only 2GB of ram??

No...It is up to 4GB, which is why I was confused...umm...64bits can take up to 8GB ( or more..?)

A 32bit OS can only address 3.25GB of memory... nothing is wrong with your system...

Oh...A ok, I read somewhere that it can handle up to 4GB...that must of been wrong then =P ...NVM...

certain component of pc need to use those ram like video graphic etc. so it is hardly to find 100% amount of ram that you have

sorry kucing, but what do you exactly copy from this software? because there are a lots of stuff in this like BIOS,Memory, System info and loads of other stuff, sorry i am a n00b in these stuff and i dont have a person who can help me

32 bit Windows can address a total of 4 gig of ram.

That 4 gig is used for prgrams as well as memory space needed by various pieces of hardware.

Typically you end up with between about 3.2 up to 3.8 gig free for software use depending on hardware configuration, but can be even less. An individual program on 32 bit windows can only address up to 3 gig of ram at most. (But of course multiple programs can fill all available ram if necesary)

In 64 bit Windows, the hardware still needs memory space but since 64 bit windows can address 64 meg or more (Theoretically it's insanely higher than that but there are some aritificial limitations) the base address for hardware is moved way up above installed ram to not sit on top and waste any of it. Some older motherboards may not allow this however...

If it's only showing 3 gig usable then most likely the other gig is being used by hardware. You can check in the task manager, performance page and click system monitor, then lok at the memory tab to see where the memory is going.

But yeah to get all your ram for programs you need to go 64 bit. But as you found out there may be a couple of issues that you will have to work (or buy) around...

User preference? I use my computer to download many many programs in a week, and to play games & surf the web...Thats about it =P
