As stated im poo-master-flex when it comes to computers. Audio equip is my domain, and only that lol! That said, I have a laptop I really like,(bought with no intention to game) its an asus kso1j, at work I have a really good internet connection and lots of down time. I play call of duty modern 1 and 2 on ps3. I know my computer based on the specs will never run the new one, im just wondering how terrible the first modern warfare would run on these specs. I have read elsewhere on this forum that cod4 is optimized very well and can run decent on a comp with crappy specs. I would just like help defining HOW crappy. Im unfamiliar with running games on pc so I have no reference point! Also, since im a console gamer I cant use a keyboard for crap! I cant even type, but I have heard I can get a controller and play games with that?! If thats even possible could you maybe suggest one thats good for FPS games? Heres my specs, and dont worry about hurting my feelings as I had no intention of gaming when I bought my laptop and so far I like it for its cheap as heck price.

Windows 7, dual core pentium t4400 at 2.20ghz, mobile intel 4 series chipset family, 64 bit, 3gb ram, 1326mb graphics memory-64mb dedicated----I dont even know what that really means I just pulled it off my comp, I can give more info if needed.

If cod is an absolute impossiblity, are there any FPS games I can run?
Also, I have AVG, Adaware, malewarebytes, Avast, and windows defender. I dont run scans all at once but im paranoid about ruining my computer from bugs so should I turn all this stuff off? I know its gotta be bogging down my comp, but is it safe to join a match on a server without the antivirus going?
THANKS FOR WHATEVER INFO YOU CAN GIVE!!!!!!

hi Glowplug007, and welcome to sevenforums,

i would stick to your ps3 if i were you.

the most important piece of hardware for playing games in the graphics card. your laptop has a weak graphics chip - it's great for 2D desktop stuff, and is good for playing back movies and dvds - but it is not a 3D gaming card. you may be able to run some games, but it won't be much fun, as you'll get jerky performance at best and will get constantly pwned if playing online

i also think you've got too much security - you only need the one good AV and is debatable if you need extra spyware stuff if the original AV can do that as well.

an analogy i quite like is that AV is like wearing a suit of armour - you know those medieval metal things. great security, and you won't get hurt, but it will slow you down on the battlefield.

now imagine wearing two suits of armour at the same time - excellent security - it may even stop a (very small) cannonball, but it will slow you right down to the point of rendering you incapable of wielding a weapon.

decide which of avast or avg you prefer, and only use one of them - or even get rid of them both and install the excellent and free microsoft security essentials. i would keep malwarebytes handy in case anything slips through.

if you've got the ps3 and have already bought games, then use that.

do post back if you have more questions.

Since you are obviously wanting this for playing at work.. (which is fine in some businesses) you cant bring your PS3 in (not easily at least)

I would advise, Try to install and run a free 3d game nexiuz:
Nexuiz

YouTube - Nexuiz Game Footage

Determine if the fps is decent enough for you and go with that for a minute. its got low level graphics as a freeware game and will give you an idea of what you can do.

If it doesn't run good enough, then you have your answer

Thanks for all the tips guys! Got rid of avg and avast, got the microsoft freebie, hope its as good or better, id been using avg for years with no problems. Kept malwarebytes and adaware-adaware doesnt seem to do anything unless you run the scan so shouldnt be bogging me down to much right? Curently downloadin nexius, looks like a blend of halo-half life-and doom lol! Speaking of half life-think I could run it? If I can run nexius no prob is cod worth a shot? The game cant be that expensive anymore especially on pc! Any other games like cod I might be able to try? Any thoughts on a controller, are they hard to set up? Thanks so much for assisting my battle with work boredom!

Yeah the interface is crap and not intuitive. I think you go through the menu and there is a small exit button in there.

Glad it ran good. did you put all graphics to max? what was fps? if there isn't an fps meter, you can use fraps to test the fps. FRAPS show fps, record video game movies, screen capture software

Also, did you get gpu-z and look for your graphics chip on notebookchecker? this is a great way of seeing what games are out-of-league and what is playable. Doom3 is listed as well as Quake3 so you should be able to see what you can get out of the chip.

horses for courses - i know which gaming platform i would prefer - ps3 or intel graphics laptop?

i read his post too quickly, and didn't realise he wanted to sneak his laptop into his workplace to play games on - although he really ought to be careful his boss doesn't see his xbox controller! :D i suppose he could argue that it's an efficient way to navigate through large spreadsheets!

It didnt come with any kind of set up wizard that I ran across. maybe I installed worng, so I was gonna try to uninstall it but I cant find it anywhere! It doesnt even show up in downloads! The shortcut I made is my only link to it! How can I get rid of it, so I can maybe put it on properly? Or what am I doing now! Told ya was an idiot!

found it in 667 seperate files, deleted all of them, I wanna take another crack at it but scared too! It wasnt on the uninstall program list, wish it was! When I downloaded, it came as a zipped file, clicked extract and all this stuff came out but no start up/set up feature, only got it to run by finding the game icon and got lucky. any clue?

No clue. When I got it, it had no issues like that. I think its similar to Quake as it is all in one main folder and runs without being "installed" in the system. I will check on my comp at home when I can to see if there is an uninstall program.
