2.1 Speaker set, subwoofer dead

Hi.

I have: 2 x Esi Near 05 nearfield monitors and a Velodyne Impact 10 Subwoofer

I have plugged them correctly I think (speakers are in front speaker out, subwoofer in center/sub out), but no matter what I try I can't get the subwoofer to work. I know it's not broken or anything if I turn up the volume I can hear something in very low volume. I have tried to configure realtek hd audio manager, but no results. This was the guide I read:

No effect, what can I do? I installed new drivers, nothing...

Does your subwoofer has an upmix function? Can you try to plug in one jack in one of the entries of your soundcard, the speakers being connected to the sub and the sub being connected with the device?
Try if you get the sub working that way. I mean, you have no 5.1 set so there is no need to plug in each jack in lots of the devices. The upmix function will work perfectly there will not be an enormous loss of sound quality.

If that does not work either, than your sub might be broken. (Try the sub with an ipod or something like that to make sure it is working)

If the sub is not damaged try this:
Sounds crazy but turn up the volume of the sub and make sure that you do not damage it this way. (Happened to me, so be gentle and turn it up slowly)
If that does not work have a look at the software of your sound card. Is the upmix function enabled or did you choose the wrong speakers say: Headphones instead of 2.1 speakers. When the upmix function is enabled the device only works if you plug in 1 jack for all speakers. If it is disabled then you need to plug in all jacks.

Maybe the bass sound is set to low by your sound device? Try not to damage your sub.

Looking at the manual for your sub it looks like you should have the front and rear connected to it, and using the two RCA input jacks for connecting to the computer, page 8 from the PDF found here,

Another thing is that your bookshelf speakers already have subs built into them (5.25"), which to me says if you want it to even come close to sounding right when using the sub you're going to have to play around with the bass redirection and cross-over settings.

From looking at your manual this is what I recommend. I am assuming that you have a 1/4" stereo jack to RCA adapter going from your sound card. I would have that plugged into your line out jack on your sound card. How do your monitors sound? Are they working properly?
