2.5 Million "cap" removed - for now...

A new post on the Windows Team blog states that the 2.5 Million download cap for the Windows 7 beta has been removed.... for 2 weeks. This is to allow people enough time to download and register for their activation keys.

Due to an enormous surge in demand, the download experience was not ideal so we listened and took the necessary steps to ensure a good experience. We have clearly heard that many of you want to check out the Windows 7 Beta and, as a result, we have decided remove the initial 2.5 million limit on the public beta for the next two weeks (thru January 24th). During that time you will have access to the beta even if the download number exceeds the 2.5 million unit limit.

the thing is that these are the same keys meaning that 2.5 million keys ran close to out and now they are showing the same keys meaning these keys can be used an infinite # number of times....

Hmm. I guess managing a load of individual keys for a beta was gonna cause too much of a headache. It's actually really refreshing for Microsoft to do this rather than delay it further. I guess they're keen for the WIndows 7 beta to play out as hassle free as possible so as not to tarnish the image before release.

As long as my keys work - despite them being the same as others - then I'm fine with it.

Just a tip, but the title of that post doesn't tell you what's in it. For "news" your blog title/post title/thread title etc should be like a newspaper headline: i.e tell the reader what they need to know without reading it - that way a) they're informed, and b) they're more likely to know what the post is about and therefore read it.

Sorry to lecture i just find it helps :)

That is the news article headline and I didn't post it, z3ro10 did. It also pays to look around the news section to see if anyone has posted the same identical thread.

Looks like M$ had to be quick on their toes to make sure people were happy, otherwise no one who wanted to test it would purchase it when its released.
