Hello there,

Should I get 2 640g black HDDs and run them on R0 or get 2 640g blues and run them on R0?

Most people would say blacks but I got mixed signals from some people that 2 500/640g blues would be better some how..

So I'm stuck between 3 choices>>
2 640g Blacks on R0 + 2 1T greens for storage

Or

2 640g Blues on R0 + 2 1T greens for storage

Or

2 500g Blues on R0 + 2 1T Greens for storage + an extra 2g ram for my system (I only have 2g of ram right now which is working great)

So what do you think is better, 2 640g blacks, 2 500g blues or 2 640g blues??

I know all about the TLER thing and I have already made a DOS USB, so I'm all set for turning TLER-ON just incase it wasn't turned on by manufacture..

Thanks.

What is the reason that you are wanting to run RAID0? Is it for insanely fast performance? If so, have you considered using an SSD for your OS drive and then just a couple of mechanical drives for your storage. Reason I ask is that access time on SSD's is almost instantaneous and will provide a much greater improvement to OS performance based on this then any RAID config will.

If I had to pick between Blue and Black, I would go with Black as they have a 5 year warranty versus a 3 year warranty.

SSD is still too expensive over here, plus the only size available right here right now is 60g which is insanely small for system, I install a lot of large games, I need C to be at least 300g ..

Is there any noticeable difference between blue and black other than the warranty?

Get the 60Gig SSD; install windows and then do custom install on your software and games by installing them to a spinning drive.

This works nicely. Or you could get one of these to have your SSD and Spinner drive work hand in hand.

Yes, the blacks are a bit faster...but with that give off a little more heat and noise. I have a 500GB caviar Blue in some boxes at work and a 1TB caviar black at home. I get about 85MB/sec with the Blue's and around 105MB/s with the Black. My access times were a bit better as well. 14ms to around 12ms...but that won't hardly be noticeable.
