2 graphics card

Currently I have a graphics card Geforce 8400 (Nvidia). I want to buy another card HD Radeon 4890. I have a Dell Optiplex 760 desktop. Do both cards work in my pc from different hardware manufacturers?

I can't say for definite, but more than likely not. I can only fit one graphics card on my system, but if I could fit more I would definitely stick with the same GPU manufacturer (in my case NVidia). Installing cards with different GPU manufacturers can lead to driver conflict issues.

If, however, you are merely looking at replacing the card, then there should be no problem.

Both cards should work, I see no reason why having 2 different brand/types of card will be a problem. I have a similiar situation with one of my clients.

You can't run both cards at the same time in an SLI or Crossfire configuration, as the two manufacturers do not play nicely together!
The Dell Optiplex 760 comes in everything from an Ultra Small Form Factor, to a Mini Tower case, and I'll bet that even the mini tower would have trouble fitting a full length card like the 4890 in it.
If you're really struck on the idea of a 4890, you might need to consider buying a bigger case to fit it all in too... Oh, and make sure your power supply is up to the task too

Definitely new NVIDIA card recommended in this situation. Only reason to get one would be to run SLI or totally replace the original card. (not sure if ATI will work but I guarantee you it won't be easy even if you can.)

So if you plan on keeping your original card and buying a new one too:

1) Check to see that your current card is SLI capable.
2) Check to see that your power supply is SLI stamped and certified. If not, it must have at least around 500W or so rating. Then in this case, you'd still have to splice into rails and you'd have to know what you're doing.

That motherboard won't take two graphics cards....

No second card will fit or will run as Orpheous mentioned. Unfortunately there will need to be a few upgrades to achieve this.

ie replace PSU, mobo etc

Yeah. That's what I was basically hinting at in my last post....that it's not going to work. But now we know for sure.

Looking at the max power supply (305W, down to 220W other model) of the 4 models shown, I'd recommend leaving the card you have in there. Anything more may stress the psu too much or not even be able to run at all.

He may be able to fit a SFF mobo into a standard ATX case, with say a decent >550W PSU... it's possible...
but personally I think the 4890 would be wasted on a G43 (Q43?) SFF build.
