Solved 2 hard drives with different content - how to sync without losing info

I have thousands of photographs on 2 drives and always intended for the two drives to contain mirror copies but I'm a bit lax in applying myself so have ended up with "2011", "2012", "2013" and "2014" on both drives but there are photos on one drive that aren't on the other and vice versa. Short of going through one by one, what is the best way of ensuring I have all information synchronised across both drives please?
