I've seen many questions about this, none of which (I could find) included Win 7 and Ubuntu. My questions is, is the procedure the same, whatever the OSs are? And I'm also assuming I'll still be able to pick a default OS upon boot?

Thx for the help:)

Best is to install them independently on 2 disks. Disconnect the other disk when you install. Then you switch with the BIOS.

I run all my Linux systems in virtual with VMware Player. Works great.
