2 O/S on separate HDD, not dual boot

Will this work: Windows 8 installed on laptop main HDD, Windows 8 installed on SSD in caddy in DVD slot. Not installed in dual boot setup.Two separate boot loaders.
Can this boot either drive using F10 boot menu?

Make sure you disconnect the HDD when you install on the SSD. Else you may end up with a double boot after all.

You can also run 1 system from an external SSD. eSata or USB3 are required. Else it is too slow from USB2.
