2 Row Taskbar Items Don't Line Up

Hey guys, I have a very annoying problem that probably has an easy fix that I just can't figure out. I have to select the option to "Never Combine" taskbar items.

So when I have it set on 2 rows, they do not line up. They always lined up in XP and I'm sure its an easy fix, I mean it has to be why would they change something for the worse right?

It happens on my copy if I select never combine - but that's because the pinned icons force an offset of a different size.

Try it without any pinned icons to see if that helps.

Just really weird why they would change something for the worse from XP it just doesn't make any sense to me.

Well, for starters, you're not going to have this problems if you switch back to the default Windows theme (preferably with Aero turned on). From your screenshot, you're on Classic, which doesn't work very well with the newer features of Windows 7 Taskbar...

Because that is not the way the taskbar is intended to be used. Yes, it's an option, but not the ideal one.

Because that is not the way the taskbar is intended to be used. Yes, it's an option, but not the ideal one.

Oh ok so where is the option I can't find how to get the taskbar to display normally like it XP so everything is lined up...

With all due respect, if it's the classic start menu you want, and the classic taskbar, then i am forced to ask the questions:

1. Did you research Windows 7 properly before making the change?
2. And if Yes to the above, then why the hell did you change to Windows 7 in the first place when you could have stayed with Vista or XP??

It is, of course, your right to use whatever interface you choose, but surely if you learned more about Windows 7 before making the change, you'd have known beforehand that the new OS works best with the default settings, be it either with or without Aero?

You remind me of my brother, who bought himself a new BMW about 4 or 5 years ago, simply because of the name and prestige associated with it. A few months after he bought it, he sold it again, and I asked him why: His answer was that he didn't know it would cost so much to maintain it, so he went with a Honda instead. The moral of the story is this: If you researched Windows 7 properly from the startm you'd have known that it isn't for you, and you would not have wasted your money.

Although my advice you to still stands: Use Windows 7 a bit with it's default settings, and give yourself time (a couple of hours at least) to learn the new features and interface. You'll eventually end up asking yourself how you ever got any work done on the classic interface.

Moving back to XP or Vista (which I am forced to at work - for the time being) is a real chore after having used Windows 7 since January...

Simple, because windows 7 flies! I have like 15 browsers open while running a virus scan and tons of other stuff it just manages memory like 10 times better! Windows 7 rocks and I would hate to go back to my sluggish xp system. And why in the world would I switch back to XP just because of the unaligned taskbar "bug" lol. 7 rocks, I love it.


Yea I do use the aero theme for when I am doing work related things but some programs I use for internet marketing require many (20+) windows to be open and I need to quickly glance down and see which ones need attention (flashing) without having to move my mouse over the grouped list.


Having the unaligned taskbar gui just makes it so hard. I mean you make some good points but the fact still stands why in the world would they not even make it an option to be like it used to be, clean and aligned.


I could even provide the psuedo code for aligning the taskbar, or they could just take it from hmmmmm... a previous version of windows.

I have it on Never Combine because I need to see each individual window and be able to locate one quickly by using my mouse to activate it (make it on top).


Sure maybe they didn't want to make this default (not sure why) but where is the option to clean up this mess?

There is no option because as far as Microsoft is concerned, you are an edge case. Edge cases are not worth the development cycles to solve. Software development is all about trade offs, sticking a balance between two cases. Either way there is going to be disappointment.

2-row tasks don't line up

I have this issue as well.

The comments above about choosing to switch to Win 7 is irrelevant, since XP is being phased out and will no longer be supported by Microsoft.

I would prefer to use an operating system with a usable taskbar; if there is a mechanism to cause the display of the explorer taskbar to more closely match that of Windows XP, then I would be interested in knowing what that is.
