Hi -

i bought a custom made pc with intel i3 processor, 2 TB or hard disk and 2 GB or ram.

I am not sure why... but i have a felling that 2 GB of RAM is not enough.

FYI
Windows explorer crashed when i visit a specific directory of the a drive. that particular folder has around 100 Videos(Movies) in different formats (mkv, mp4, avi, wmv). The same folder can be accessed through VLC open window.

Problem
Window explorer crashed and asks to restart when opening a specific folder.

you probably want more, but how about helping us to help you by filling in your system specs>
Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec
(left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

In the System Manufacturer Block, enter:
Manufacturer and Model and
ADD the word laptop, desktop, netbook or tablet.
For example:
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

You will find that in Speccy, you can select info from the display
using your mouse/touchpad and then paste that info into your specs.

SIW is a marvelous program, but the free version does not offer
this capability.

Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
After you have entered your System Specs (so we can see if your integrated video is using the system RAM), try this:

Open Windows Explorer > Go to the Videos folder > Click on the View drop down in the upper Right corner of the window > and select "List" as your option.
Now see if there is a freeze opening the folder in list format. Let us know

If the List setting will not 'stick' for this test (meaning the folder keeps reverting to Large Icons) then you can do this:
Do exactly as above, but before you leave the Videos folder do this:
Click to drop down "Organize" > Select "Folder & Search Options" > Click the View Tab > then click "Apply to All Folders".

2Gb RAM sounds a bit low these days, but it shouldn't stop the PC working; it's just that every demand on memory will be reduced.
I wonder why the vendor didn't encourage you to have more fitted - since at purchase your MBO was empty - suggest you go back pronto and have a complain. The most common arrangement would be 4G (2x 2Gb ), although Windows 32-bit cannot address all this, it will sort itself out. It is quite common for "budget" PC's to have integrated video (on the MBO) and this will place memory demands on the system RAM, unless there is some extra you've not said.
Surprises me that you needed to have a "below spec" PC built specially - or is there some space restriction, perhaps?

In addition to the full-spec often demanded here, I think you should tell us what you'll be using this PC for, if it's just email, wordprocessing then a low-spec should be good enough. The danger(!) is that once you get a "New PC" buyers start to want more power. For example photo editing, video editing/display, gaming are three levels up (IMHO), from basic email & wp which should be available on almost any "working" PC.

If you are into Video as yr comments suggest you should be drivng Quad-core, 4G RAM (or more, if you opt for 64-bit OS), and a minimum 500Mb video card with digital outtputs (as well as customary VGA).
- To that end IMHO, yr PC is already under-spec'd. However, if you are merely storing files and don't mind the wait, then a low-spec will do, just don't expect to view action movies.

Finally, did you see this PC running before taking it away?

FWIW I didn't understand TVeblen's suggestion: I had to "search" for Windows Explorer and when I found LIST there was nothing there - I think it needs to be aimed at a specific drive/folder.
FWIW I usually have mine set at "Large" so I can see the first frame of each photo/video - so, obviously been using WE without realising it. . . . . . . "Live and learn", eh?

This prog has been OK for nearly 1yr . . . . DVD Architect Studio v5.0 will give very similar Fault-Code( See postings). nearly 1 month later, without any video-processing, if I fiddle with the "Playlist" - this is part of the User-design and not anything "rogue" - but it suggests (to me?) that it's not any video-content (IE screen play action, or audio files) that are to blame.
Right click on the folder, go to properties, click customize, under "Optimize this folder for", change it from videos to General items, and see if that does anything for you.
you could have a corrupted thumbnail or something.

Looks like a corrupted MFT... or folder setting.

2 GB should be enough if you use a x86 system, otherwise you need at least 1 GB more (2 GB Reccomended) to get a fluid system. But this has nothing to do with symptoms you describe...

Was this system bought with a clean install of Windows 7? I suspect by the things you type that this was loaded with hundreds of videos and data you don't use (Maybe I'm wrong) If it is not a clean install of windows, I would reccomend to format and clean reinstal windows.
