2 Things :P ( searchindexer memory leak & win7 upgrade)

1.)okay so i use the start menu search box to run cmd commands all the time... then suddenly pc starts to lag/slow down I open taskmanger(barely) and see that searchindexer.exe consumes like 300mb RAM O>O? has anyone noticed that? Discuss Lol!

2.) well just wanna upgrade my build 7100 to 7127 but my 20gb partition for windows 7 has only like 7gb left is that enoght to be able to do an upgrade? cuz there was this upgrade bug that no matter how much space you got left it stil says not enough... so jsut wanna clear stuff out ... Discuss!

1. Do you have a second hard disk? You could move the indexing to it.

2. Personally speaking I wouldnt bother with the 7100-7127 upgrade.

1.)nope its only one harddisk with 2 partitions
2.)well theres nothing to lose so might aswell try hehe.... still downloading 7127 atm stupid torrent is so slow

another reason why your system is bogged down is the limited amount of freespace you allow it to work with. The more clogged up your drive is, the harder it is on the indexer and the overall system performance itself. Even to do a defrag, windows wants 10-15% free just to be able to defrag.

If possible in the future, try installing just the OS itself and drivers and little such thngs, then use a different partition for program installs. Also, besides the "do not upgrade" great debate, i have another philosophy now, and thats to install the new build on a different partittion to test out before making a concrete decision if whether or not that build is worth "upgrading" to. All of this knowing of course, this is dependant on your setup and hdds and space. Just to put a nugget in your mind the next time you decide to do some hardware upgrading.


Also to the rest of you in this thread that like the 27.... what about it is "better" than the 7100?

I did a search today for an old photo I thought I had on one of these 3 hard drives on this computer. The search maxxxxed out my CPU usage at 100%

I think I was only at about 50% of the 4gb of ram on the gadget :huh:

2.) Requires 16Gb free to upgrade as I found out earlier on. Had to remove some big apps whilst I did mine.

resized partition and upgraded took 20-30minutes without even uninstalling anti-virus (eset nod321)Success! and it seems the search memory hogging is also gone... ;O

I asked a similar question in another thread. 7100 is fast, everything i need runs (extremely well) and apart from my 2 control panel icons i have had no problems what-so-ever.
