Solved 2 User Folders one User Account

I have 2 User Folders - say Mog and Mog-PC in my C drive under Users. But I do not have a User ACCOUNT for Mog - only one, an Administrative Account, for Mog-PC which is the one I use most. In trying to get rid of
Mog I have set up 2 other administrative accounts with completely different names and a Standard User Account and copied most of the Mog and Mog-PC folders over to each of them.

Most recently I discovered some of the Mog files were checked as shared, so I went all through Mog and Mog-PC ensuring none of the folders were shared. I then tried deleting Mog Folders AFTER moving any that did not appear in Mog-PC over to Mog-PC. I ran into trouble with deleting the Desktop Folder (most of Mog-PC Desktop disappeared as well). When I tried to delete the Mog User FOLDER, it was obvious the system was deleting files and folders from Mog-PC so I hastily cancelled. (I do have backups to external hard drives of all important stuff).

Anyone any ideas as to what, short of clean installing, I can do about this. System restore has stopped working recently as well. My Windows disk is OEM from Mesh who made encouraging noises about sending a disc when I first rang but who are not answering my emails since. I may have to try to borrow one from friends of my son but wonder if there is anything else I can do first ?

Thanks if you are reading this - even more thanks if you have any ideas even if only to confirm clean reinstall is the only way forward.

Did you open Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts to see if there is another account?
Did you do a win 7 upgrade (reinstall windows under windows)?
Are your files under \users\Mog or under \users\Mog-PC?

If you have a COA Licese key you can use it to do a clean install using any Win 7 installation disk.

Thanks for reply. There is no account for Mog under Control Panel/Users Accounts/Manage Other Accounts.

No I haven`t done a windows upgrade - Mesh installed an OEM copy of Windows 7 Home Premium in May 2013 when I bought the computer. I have a Product Key but no disc.

I have several Users listed under C Drive/Users. These include Mog and Mog -PC as 2 separate folders. Mog-PC is also the name of my main Admin Account and I open this with a password every time I access the computer. I have passwords on the other accounts too and can access them that way if I choose. At one time I was trying to close both Mog and Mog-PC by transferring all the files etc. to an Admin File I call Bossy Boots !

I don`t know what a COA Licensing Key is - is that my Product Key Number ? My husband made a System Recovery Disk in July 2013 and I have been toying with the idea of trying that. I have plenty of backups to external hard disks of all important files.

Would I still be able to read these if I clean installed Windows 7 Home Premium, and upgraded to Windows Pro ? I have been assuming so.

I have purchased a WIN PRO 6 SP1 X64 ENGLISH 1 PK OE1 - update media included -recently from Amazon. I was intending to use this to update from Home Premium as I thought Pro would simplify sorting out the User Permissions. I do intend to get help to do that ! But I don`t think I should attempt this until I have sorted out the Mog/Mog-PC problem.

I would be grateful for any clarification you can give me even if the net result is that I have to buy a new computer ! Trouble is I am very dubious about Windows 8 and 10 and am afraid if I give up I may not be able to keep Windows 7.

Thank you so much for your time and trouble.

On OEM computers, normally there is a Certificate Of Authenticity (COA) stick with the License key on it.

The explanation for Mog and Mog-pc can be from an account that was renamed.

For example, if you had a Mog-pc account and then went to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts\Change Your Name and renamed to Jack, the account is renamed but it will remain as \Users\Mog-pc on the folder tree.
As you have several users names, make a list to see if there is an account user that don't have a matching folder under \Users

Thanks again. You are right about the source of the problem. I did rename my Admin Account (at that time I only had one) Mog-PC.

I have 4 Admin Account User Folders. I only have 3 Admin User Accounts, only one of which has Mog as part of the Account Name. I also have a Standard User Account named Granny Mog but it has its own User Folder.
I have a Guest Account, turned off, which has never been used and a Public Folder which I have not used.

Re: Mesh COA stick, is this a USB stick ? I have only just read through the Mesh Customer Support Manual Troubleshooting Section for which I apologise. Under Recovery Solution and Troubleshooting there are several suggestions for repairing Windows 7 so I will get on to Mesh again and see if they can help me. I will post any solutions they offer and if they work mark this as solved.

Thank you for listening and commenting - dialogue helps so much to clarify the mind !

In case anyone else finds this searching for solution to similar problems, I did eventually contact Mesh but they were most unhelpful - actually walked away leaving me hanging on after saying they were looking up some info for me. I tried to of their help lines - same result from both. I was only asking if the system they installed on my computer has a Recovering Disk Partition. They found my order but didn`t seem to know what I was talking about. So I don`t recommend applying there for help. Have decided to do a Clean Re-install as I found a Windows 7 Home Premium disc in my husband`s belongings. I thought you could only try it once but apparently that is not the case. He has tried once to make a recovery disc from it but I am hoping I can use for a clean reinstall. Thanks for all your help.

Welcome back Windy.
The Mesh computer came with Win Vista?
What kind of license you have on the Windows 7 Home Premium disc (OEM, retail or upgrade)?

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium OEM license - I assume retail. I am in process of setting up a Macrium backup on a trial
of v6. As I now have a disc (labelled Windows 7 Home Premium - Welcome to your PC, simplified - For distribution only with a PC - contact your PC manufacturer for product support (hah hah !) hah hah not on the disc cover ! I hope I may be able to use this for a clean re-install. Once I have verified my Macrium backup is ok. I have asked a question on another forum concerning whether testing the recovery hd (which is on a new Toshiba hd) on the hd I have recently been using with ordinary windows backups would wipe the backups. When I am happy this will not be the case, I will go ahead with the test. If this turns out to be unwise, I will have to buy another hd to test it.

On the disc itself it also says:

Microsoft Intended for distribution with a new PC - Includes Windows Anytime Upgrade - includes Service Pack 1 64-bit software copyright Microsoft 6/11 x17-03404-02. On the back of the leaflet it has X15-46438-02 and also HB101816/DSP

Thankyou very much for replying - sorry it has taken me so long to come back. I gave up on Mesh. I found I had a failing computer battery and replacing that helped with a lot of minor irritations. So I tried again to follow tutorial for replacing user accounts this time successfully. I still have some problems but they all belong on new threads.

Incidentally, for anyone with an old computer and lots of problems, find someone who can use a screwdriver CAREFULLY who isn`t afraid to open the computer, and try replacing the battery ! It was surprisingly easy to do. Marking this solved.
