Thought this was interesting. I don't know if this is available in the U.S. I thought it wasn't till June or July......

Upgrade now and get approximately 20% off Windows Vista and receive upgrade rights to Windows 7 when it's released!
Every new PC that you deploy with Windows Vista now can help smooth your transition to Windows 7, and there's no better time than now to begin planning your migration. Why? The cost and complexity of managing your IT environment is on the rise, and your resources are stretched to the limit. Windows Vista helps you build an agile, flexible, and more easily managed IT infrastructure, and Windows 7 builds on this foundation to provide enhanced security and control and help you streamline the management of your PCs.
More here,

There's no better time

Hi there
I'd suggest this is like re-arranging the Deckchairs on the titanic.

If you are currently NOT a VISTA user why on earth would you go down this route - especially now "XP Mode" is available for Windows 7.

Businesses don't tend to upgrade very often - especially software -- no way would you do 2 quick "Company Wide" OS upgrades in quick sucession - even with only 20 PC's.

If you are upgrading to Windows 7 as everybody agrees you'd want to do a fresh install anyway. So why "Upgrade".

Installing VISTA and then W7 doesn't (from a business point of view) make ANY sense whatsoever.

If a business WAS planning to implement VISTA it probably will decide that it could be better to wait until later in the year and then implement W7.

We don't also know the final prices - but I'd suggest that a "Company License" for W7 however you look at it would be cheaper than a VISTA and a W7 license whatever the "upgrade discount" to say nothing of the extra cost of IT staff (or even Power users) time to install this.

Cheers
jimbo

This is mostly true...however I was thinking also about someone like me who wants to build a computer. I was going to wait....but if I can just get going and not have to worry about getting se7en.....it would be nice.

This is Canada and I don't live in Canada. I just wonder if they will implement this in other areas of the world for individuals.

I don't think you can buy just one open value license.

I would still wait for the RTM, they might have a sale !

it has been my understanding that Windows 7 will be considerably cheaper than Vista, which would mean this is a pretty stupid deal.

am i mistaken?

Why not just download the FREE W7 RC and the XP compatability feature until R7 comes out.

You can build your computer without having to wait.

"Official" - non torrent RC is now available anyway.
