Solved 24 GB space loss

I was checking up on my HDD space usage with WinDirStat and there I notice I got a big block of 24,2 GB which is unknown.

First I thought it would be the XP mode virtual PC but then I got thinking, XP isn't 24 GB or is it ?

Could somebody help me with finding out what this file is or how I could get to it.

Here's a google search for it, as there seems to be a few possibilities, including a file for Call of Duty. Do you play that game?:

What is the big, yellow block? When you point to it, what does it tell you. <Unknown> and <Files> are strange names for folders, especially in the root of the boot drive.

If you open them, what is in them?

As the size shows as approx 15% I would suspect it's the restore points and previous files check in advanced system settings for the space allocations for the drive

@Ztruker: That's the point I don't know what <Unknown> is I can't even open it nor can i find it in my C: folder.
<Files> contains pagefile.sys and hiberfyl.sys the 2 big turqoise blocks

@James Colbert: No it's not a CoD file, the CoD files are located at the top left (green, purple and yellow). I got CoD MW2 and that's only about 12 GB.

@Barman58: It' not that either, My system restore is set to max 5% (= 22,66GB). BTW the 14,9% stands for 14,9% of the 162GB used.

They look like a black bock instead of a folder and are displayed like "<file>" because I can't see them In my C: folder

For some reason <Unknown> has change from 24,2GB to 14,9GB since yesterday.

After doing a search for WinDirStat and unknown folders I found this:

WDS shows a certain item labelled “<Unknown>” and recently someone posted a comment asking for details:

i think it would be nice to put in the faq or in help or in some docs what’s in the “unknown” space
sometimes it’s an huge amount of space… like 700 or more MB … i think it could be the “system volume information” but… what mysterous things are within this space? he he he…

This mysterious item is just the difference between what Windows reports as the free space on the volume minus size of the files WDS can access. Please note the part WDS can access! This is the important point here. WDS cannot access the files under System Volume Information on all the (NTFS?) drives, so it cannot sum up the sizes of these items. And by the way, we have had reports of up to 30 GB of “<Unknown>” space.

As I was trying the program boohbah had recommended me, I simultaniously ran WinDirStat.

It seems that the unknown block is actually "system volume information".
Since the system volume information folder is empty in WinDirStat.

Also, the <Unknown> block isn't an .ff file anymore so it makes more sense.
