2gb RAM OK but 4gb = BSOD

You might want to try bumping up the north bridge voltage a tad, I believe it's called ICH on Asus boards,. Standard procedure to help support 4GB.

How far should I bump it up? What could be needed?
And how far can one increase until it becomes a risk?

I can't seem to find the setting.

My Advanced -> JumperFree Configuration -screen holds the following items

• AI Overclocking
• DRAM Frequency

• Memory Over voltage
• 1.30V Over voltage
• VIT_CPU Over voltage
• 1.5V Over voltage
• VCore Over voltage

New bsod, or well actually not bsod. It followed like this, I heard the beep that the computer gives when I boot, and then a few seconds later I hear the beep again, signalling that the comp has rebooted it self. Then it gets stuck at the dos-like screen with a cursor blinking (non-typeable ofc).

I've had this error before, it varies, sometimes this error. Sometimes bsod. And sometimes it goes to the "windows is loading files..." (dos-like) with a loading bar. All three types at boot.

Unfortunately I have no dump since this is not a bsod.


Could this one (or all of the errors) be caused by the northbridge voltage as suggested by Chev65?

I'd investigate the specs on the cpu. Since having raised ram to what it needs, good chance a slight bump in cpu voltage will match well and fix.
Research is key.

Ok, I'm looking into that...

As a note, my chassi (Ace Gears 4 500W) icluded a PSU of 500W, this should be enough - right?

I was having a similar problem. I found this forum while googling for the solution. Anyway this is how I fixed my problem. Give it a try and see if it works for you.

I've followed the instructions mentioned in the thread, first boot was ok and I guess all I can do now is wait and see

Followed the instructions and one day later I had the black screen issue, but I had bumped down RAM voltage so I bumped it up again and the problem went awa for about two weeks. So I was guessing that there never was ONE problem but TWO and these two fixes solved it. However as I said, today I had a bsod.

I mean we must be on some kind of right track since the last bsod was two weeks ago when usually it bsods like every fifth boot, right?

Ideas?
