Obviously Its sensible to do a backup before installing windows 7. I don't have an external hard disk, however my computer does have a second internal hard disk, with an identical capacity. Doing the install, should this disk (which dosnt have theos on it) be left completely untouched? And wil it still work afterwards? (I also have a similar question relating to a small partition on my first disk).

Yes. When you install windows 7 you will choose where to install it. If you choose your c: drive then that's where it will install leaving any other partitions on that drive and your second hdd just as they were.
