Got a x540 5.1 and for the most part I like it. I have in my possesion a smaller sub-woofer, about 1/2 the size as the x540's sub. I was thinking, hey - hook it up by splitting the center speaker feed and running a line for the back of the room. And then I thought the x540 sub probably has the center feed on a capacitor of sorts, and the other problem is the smaller sub has a 3.5 jack not rca. But aside from that has anyone else tried to rig up a second sub?

I doubt that would work because the X-over & amp is built into the sub box.
Or it may, but the 2nd sub wouldnt have much low end at all off that center channel.

i want to say the sats are all around 8W a channel?? Something like that and the Sub itself gets 20.

But maybe you could replace the sub itself , or run the subs wiring to another sub.

Splitting the subs channel off may result in a lot of distortion, but may be the best way to try it .. I dunno.

I'm no expert here, but unless the amp is designed to run twin subs, you're probably asking for trouble - or at the very least, a reduction in sound quality.

a sub can be placed anywhere, if you add another sub you may just create dead-spots in your bass around your room, not very enjoyable to say the least.

Well it doesn't 'sound' like the extra sub idea wil pan out, and the x540 sub is contained. Only the satilite speakers plug into it. Maybe it would be enough for an extra center satilite in the back, could always -/+ the boost as long as there's minimal quality loss. Thanks for pointing that part out guys. I'll see if I can dig something up in a few days.

Ok I used an rca splitter and jacked in a 2nd center. Seemed to work fine, used a regular PC speaker but you could tell only mid-range and up was getting through.

On a side note I suppose if I realy wanted to I could void the warrenty and unscrew the actual sub, connect a secondary jack but it's not a pressing issue.

edited to add
Or (duh) try a split off the main feed.
