Solved 2TB Disk Partition Suggestions

Having now got my SSD up & running with the Win7 OS installed including drivers & updates & all running stable, I feel confident with its stability & now wish to convert the original HDD into a drive to store data, games & backups etc. There is no data on the HDD that I wish to keep & I was going to re-connect the drive then use Diskpart to clean it & quick format it etc.

Question1
Do I not enter the command "active" at the end of the formatting sequence in the above case? I Presume "active just makes a drive bootable correct?

Question 2
Should I create several partitions to better organise the data or just leave it as one 2TB
drive? Although I have an SSD, fast data retrieval for games would be a condsideration

Hello Greyjoy,

No, you would not want to use "Active" to make the 2TB HDD active. Only the System drive (your SSD) should remain as the active drive.

For what you want to do, you would just want to run Clean, and do a quick format. After that, if you like, you could shrink the 2TB HDD by say 1TB to have two 1TB partitions on it to use how you like. There's nothing wrong with leaving it as one large 2TB partition either. It really just depends on your needs.

Barring an unusual requirement, I'd just leave it as 1 large partition, subdivided by folders.

Multiple partitions have a way of disappointing you because you can't accurarately estimate the growth rate of the data in each--and therefore risk running out of space in a partition, making an inefficient use of the entire 2 TB.
