3.5" memory card bay slow

It has connections to different memory cards, USB, and sata connections. Though when I transfer SD card files they're rather slow in transferring, like 1mb per second, though the USB slot is about 2.5mb per second. Any idea on this? Thanks.

Read or write from the SD card? Many cheap SD cards are very slow. Only buy class 6 or better. How is the connector bay connected? USB?

Both read and write are slow. Write seems to be a bit faster at about 2.5megabytes per second compared to reading 1mbps. I tried three different SD cards, class 4-6, with storages from 2-16gb, but they all seem to perform similarly. Its only been this slow with my new bay. Its connected via the USB cable to the motherboard.

Is there any software available for this? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Sounds like it's hooked up to a USB 1.1 header. Can you move it to another one?

I switched the header to another connector, but still the same low speed persists. I'm doubting my motherboard has a USB 1.1 connector to begin with, considering its fairly new with USB 3.0 ports on it. The USB connector is also rather slow around the same speeds, though the device was advertised (and I don't see why it shouldn't be) as USB 2.0 (along with the other sata inputs).

It might only support 1MB/s regardless of the port on the PC. What do the specs say?

And, are you saying if you stick the SD card via some other adaptor into a USB port, it will do 2.5MB/s, or just USB devices in general?

The manual to my MOBO says all the headers are USB 2.0 on the MOBO. The site also claims that the bay is USB 2.0, which I have no doubt. I did try another USB stick (USB 2.0), and the average rate was about 4.5 Megabytes per second, which is much better, but still not that high. I tried other USB ports on my computer, including the ones that are right on the motherboard in the I/O section, they're all the same speed for the newer stick. The SD card (all three of them) are still slow at the 1Mbps speed.

I tried my older SD/USB bay (which doesn't support SDHC) and the speed is also the same on it. Am I missing something here?

Also, I tried my SD cards on another computer and the average transfer rate was abut 20MBps, which is what they should be, at least. I formatted one of my SD cards on my computer and tried the transfer again, but again I had the amazing result of a measly 1MBps.

Could it possibly have something to do with my BIOS?

Perhaps chuck in a live CD and see what the transfer rate there is. That will isolate if it is OS or your PC in general.

I finally got around to try the CD transfer, It was an average of 9 megabytes per second. Started at 15, but quickly leveled to 9. Good sign, bad sign?
