I have 1 computer w/ 3 hdd + ext hdd for personal data.

I know this sounds goofy because no 2 int hdd have been plugged in at same time. YET
hdd1 = Vista 64 bit home
hdd2 = WIN 7 PRO 64 bit
hdd3 will = WIN 8 Consumer Preview

after I burn the WIN 8 Consumer Preview ISO and install on hdd3

is it safe to shut down, connect the other 2 hdd and bootup without repercussions? if not all 3 then at least 7 & 8

in my mind according to what I've read in past, it should ask which OS I want to use.

I tried multi-boot Vista & Ubuntu on same drive once with mixed results; a larger hdd for my pc to replace the old one which became a very strong refrigerator magnet for my wife.

Well48,
Never done three but you are correct the bios will as which OS you want to boot to. Good that they are all on different hard drives.

Thanks for reassurance. It's just going to be 7 & 8. Since posting last I realized that I was only hoarding Vista. Time to free up a hdd.

Good choice as W7 is way better than Vista ever dreamed to be. I ran XP and W7 together till I was confident I liked W7 which took all of like 1 week.

The only thing I miss about XP believe it or not is Picture & Fax Viewer and it's ability to play .gifs instead of IE. Plus the ability to use Unfreeze to create a .gif

I didn't have hard time with Vista because I done the same thing I'm doing now with 8. I read a lot of negative opinions about it, a few positive ones which many times gave information & tips about the things everyone was negative about. I had a Wacom at the time so I decided to buy Vista after reading about handwriting recognition.

Then 7 came along. With a lot of positive reviews. A friend bought new pc with 7, dropped it off unopened and had me remove the trialware and install SpywareBlaster, ZoneAlarm and Avast. 7 is just so fluid compared to Vista & I had to have it.

Now I'm following the 8 polls here, absorbing the positive info and following links which lead to more positive links.

Like it or not, Metro is the future. It may be designed more for touch but it allows mouse & keyboard.

Install Win8 with WIn7 HD unplugged, then afterwards plug back in Win7 HD, set preferred OS HD to boot first in BIOS setup.

Then to boot the other HD OS, at boot tap the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key given on first screen.

If you don't like this arrangement, install EasyBCD to first booting OS, add other OS to Dual Boot Menu, Save , reboot.

THANK YOU for the information I need.
