after i sign into my msn & i see ive got mail, if i click on it, it opens internet expoler 32-bit, but it struggles to open or is very slow, how do i get the 64-bit IE to open automatically instead of 32-bit when i click on my 'go to mail' i.e. how do i disable the 32-bit IE.

Have you enabled Tabbed Browsing (Internet Options/General/Tabs/Settings)? Then I expect it should open as a new tab in the same browser. I'm using 32-bit only since I don't have a 64-bit computer, but when I follow your procedure Hotmail opens quickly. Also, I expect you need to make sure both browsers (32-bit or 64-bit) open equally fast since there is no reason 32-bit should be slower. Perhaps you could try a reset: Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Reset.

thanx 4 replying, dont know if u can help me, my question was that when im in my messenger homepage (at this point i dont have an IE open) when i click on my mail inbox it then opens my IE, but instead of the 64-bit, its opening the 32-bit, which is so slow, obviously my aim is 4 the 64-bit 2 open when i click my mail, as this runs at a fast speed, hope u can help or point me in the right direction roncerr. thanx again

All I can think of is to check your default programs: Default Programs/Set Program Access.../Custom/. Then specifically select Internet Explorer as the default. You might also check to make sure it is the default by clicking a web page link in an email to see if the correct browser opens. If it does and Messenger opens the 32-bit version instead, that may be because Messenger was designed to do that. If that's the case most people wouldn't notice since it works fine. That's why I suggested you may have a more serious problem if 32-bit is slow compared to 64-bit, and should be fixed rather than avoided.

You can't, IE 32 bit is the default browser and Microsoft has locked it in so you can't make IE 64 bit the default browser. You can make Internet Explorer the default browser just not the 64 bit version of it. Anything that links to or opens IE will launch the 32 bit version by default. The only way around it that I know of is to open the 64 bit version of IE before you launch any programs that link to it. Then they just open a new tab in IE 64 bit instead of launching IE 32 bit. If you go to default programs your only option is IE, you don't get to chose 32 bit or 64 bit and it defaults to the 32 bit version.
