32 bit to 64 bit Win 7 ?

Hi

My pc runs the 32 bit version of Win 7. It's a full retail version bought from Amazon. I am about to build a new pc (first time !) and want to use the 64 bit version.

Can I just install the 64 bit version and use my current lic key ? The pc with the 32 bit version will at that point cease to exist. Does MS accept this? Will I need to contact them?

Yes, you can, but you must clean the old pc first.

The new install will be onto a new ssd drive. Does that make any difference ?

If the 64 bit version is going onto my new pc why do I need to "clean " the drives on the old pc?

These drives will be installed into the new pc once the 64 bit win 7 is up and running on my new ssd. They will only be used for data.

If you do not clean the old HD with 32bit install to, you have a Dual 32bit & 64bit.
Therfore two lic key's will be need, one for 32bit install & one for 64bit install.

Ok, I understand. The 32 bit ver will be scrubbed after the new pc is up and running. ie same day.
